Civic 98 Squealing sound

98 civic ex
198,9xx Miles
Ok I recently replaced my o2 sensor, Cel light still on, throwing code p0138 now, before it was p0171.

I recently drove 900 miles and a squealing on my drivers side started. It comes and goes, and is noticeable at low speeds, but can't really hear it at high speeds( maybe engine too loud)

In addition to that, when I drive at 70-80Mph my steering wheel especially and car shakes. I'm not too sure if they are part of the same problem.

Maybe its time to dump this car.... I was hoping for 200,000

Any thoughts

Re: Civic 98 Squealing sound

P0171 definition is "Fuel metering lean". Not normally caused by the O2 sensor, but could be.

Which sensor did you replace?

What did you replace it with?

P0138 definition is "High voltage problem in the secondary O2 sensor". That's the rear sensor.
EDIT: Could be caused by fuel system metering stuck rich, and could be related to the P0171

----

Squealing form where? Stick your head out the window like a dog and listen for where it comes from.

Squealing, only while moving? .....Does it change when you step on the brakes? Changes as you steer?
Front pads worn out. Wear indicator (squealer) noise.

Shakes @ 70+, usually tire balance. The faster you go, the worse it gets.

But if the shake goes away when you let off the gas at that speed it might be axles (inner joints worn).

(If the steering wheel twitches at low speeds or your seat waddles side to side at low speeds, you probably have a bad tire.)

I replaced the o2 sensor in the front of engine.

Squealing is the belt on the right side of the engine when looking at the engine from the front of the car. squeals on and off regardless of what i do
accelerate, brake ,idling

Shakes only at 70+, I drove it at 65 today and there waS nothing
It does not shake when I brake so it cant be warped rotors
No waddling at low speeds, only when I go 70+

(You didn't answer the other question.)

So, the new code is dealing with the rear sensor now.

I have no way of telling if it is related to your new front sensor.
It could be, but there isn't enough info for me to make a judgement.
Squealing is the belt
You should have said that in the first place. Makes things a lot simpler if you reveal all that you know in the original post.

Horribly loud squalling is usually because (one of)the belt(s) is too loose (your car should have 3 belts).
Inspect, then adjust it tighter or replace it.

I'd GUESS it will be the alternator belt.

If it isn't a loose belt, more inspection needs done. Harmonic balancer coming apart? *shrug*

First step: Get the tires balanced.

HTH

Re: Civic 98 Squealing sound

I replaced it with a bosch o2 sensor.

The squealing noise also has this burnt rubber smell so im assuming i have to change the whole belt

Inspect and evaluate. Then decide.

Yeah if it was a belt burning, it probably needs replaced.
