Rep Power: 0 Skunk2 exhaust installation (need help)
I Purchased a full cat back skunk2 exhaust system for my 2000 civic se, I have a d16y7 1.6L engine.
I tried installing the exhaust system and ran into a little problem. It was my first time installing an after market exhaust system so I'm probably just dumb and missing something here.
My buddy says I need a test pipe to stick in there,
The pictures show where the mid pipe would hang if installed and there's a gap to the down pipe and header about(1.3 feet) that you see in the pics
I just wanted to get your opinions on what I need to do.
If there's any questions about the car lmk id be happy to answer
Thanks for the help.

Welll....I'm not an expert on 6th gens, but, If it's anything like the 7th gen exhaust, which I believe it is, the cat on your car is part of the exhaust manifold, and that exhaust kit you purchased is for the EX model, which has the D16Y8 engine, and the cat would be bolted right up where that gap is that you have. Long story short - just bolt/weld a straight pipe in there like your friend mentioned and you'll be fine. Otherwise you'll have to convert the exhaust to EX. and that's just a lot of money.

ah i see, i sorta figured that, thanks for the reply,
I mean I plan on replacing the oem headers, so i would need a new cat then im guessing as well... and that would also fix my problem?
and yea your right about where the cat is, under the manifold

Yea, because the cat and manifold are one piece, you have to replace the whole thing...which is expensive. When I got a header for my car, I just bought the EX header and an ebay down pipe and a magnaflow universal high-flow cat and welded everything into place where it would be on the EX. The only tricky thing there is that I had to relocate the O2 sensors and extend the wires cause they're in different spots on the EX exhaust because of where the cat is, but now I can replace the cat and header separately if need be. My original cat-back system was universally built for the DX and the EX, so I just had to unbolt the extension to make room for everything.
