Rep Power: 0 2000 civic humming noise
I have a 2000 civic hx, 5 sp. Out of the blue, I started hearing a higher pitch humming noise coming from the engine bay when i would take a left turn. It would fade shortly there after completing the turn. After a day or 2, the noise would kick on turning either direction, and sometimes would start regardless of turning.
The noise is a humming noise that stays persistent until I stop. Even after stopping, the sound can linger for a few seconds and kick off, like a pump or something. Also, my brakes get squeaky when this noise is active. (regularly they are fune) I let the car idle today for a good 20 mins and the noise would not come on. (Tried with and without the AC on) So it only comes on shortly after accelerating, and sometimes when tapping the brake.
So my first instinct was maybe the power steering pump. I took it off and drove the car around. The sound still remained. I have a few theories, but I can't afford to just keep taking stabs at the car with new parts.
My thoughts are it might be a water pump, or maybe something within the braking system. I dont know if there are any component in the braking system that have pumps? I dont believe it is a bad wheel bearing or anything of that nature since the sound can linger after coming to a complete stop.
This is my first Honda, and I pretty much only know how to work on American vehicles. Any and all input is appreciated. Honda experts, please help!!!!!!

Wow good one. I thought brake warning but that is not it. A/c compressor but that's not it. Powersteering nope, wheel bearing nope...
alternator? Fuel pump? never had a noisy water pump.
Vacuum leak in the brake booster that sort of hums ? I had vacuum leak in a HVAC system in a dodge that hummed, all controls were vacuum controlled in that car.
Thats the best i've got for you. sorry
