Rep Power: 0 Cold air intake question on a 97 lx
Hey all, first post.
I bought a 97 last night and its in rough shape. Kicking myself in the head for looking at a car in the middle of the night but oh well........its runs like a firecracker. I will need lots of help with this so expect many posts
First issue i want to address is the air intake. Its missing the hose that i guess goes from the airbox on the carbs to the front of the car? No local scrap yards have ANY civics at all. So i figured why not just replace it all with a cold air intake?
I have never put one of these on and dunno what to expect. It looks like theres some sensors that plug into the air box. Dunno what to do with those.
Has anyone ever bought a CAI for their riceburner? Can you tell me what i can expect upon install and any tricks involved?
thanks

There are numerous threads on cold air intakes you can find by using the search feature. Welcome to the site. As for those hose or whatever, I think I have an idea of what you're talking about, but not fully off the top of my head.

any specific brand i could look at? personally the cheaper the better due to the amount of money i need to dump into this car. im seeing several on ebay thats 25 to 55 bucks and then theres a price leap that goes upwards of 100 bucks.

You could redneck a tube from the airbox. I believe the point of the tube is for the engine to get colder air than from on top of the engine.
It's not that important right now until you figure out why the engine is running crappy.
-Did you get the maintenance record of the car?
Fuel filter, air filter might be clogged up. Have fun with your new car!
--Oh wait, there are some sensors disconnected from the airbox?? That could be your problem. There's a sensor in there that senses vacuum, I believe.

In all honesty, you can build one out of PVC, and put a filter on it
thats what one person on this forum did, works fine.
