Rep Power: 0 A rumble from the CVT - bad or badder?
Hi,
I have a 1996 Civic HX with the CVT. Sometimes when idling it gives a loud rumble that I interpret as a belt slipping. So I have some questions.
Is my diagnosis reasonable?
Can this just be a question of transmission fluid level? If so, how do I check it?
Is this just an annoyance or is it a sign the tranny is on the critical list?
My brother-in-law, who needs a car, wants to buy it. I'd like to sell it to him but he doesn't need to buy a $2000-3000 bill for another transmission.
Any advice out there?
Thanks.
Steve

my 97 hx cvt is doing the same thing. Everytime you take off its like a shutter, jump, shake in the transmission. Im at 170k and just bought the thing, ive read flushing the tranny fluid can help with the problem, but im currently still seeking the prob.

I finally took the car to a dealer to have it diagnosed. In my case it turned out to be the hood! Apparently the engine shakes in idle anyway but the shaking cause the hood to rub its mounts the wrong way causing the noise. They adjusted the hood and gave the car a tuneup. The engine still shakes but the loud noise is nearly gone.
