I have a 97 civic coupe ex it needs an engine replacement
I read somewhere that you can replace it with a D15B. does anyone know
if this is true? and if so is it a direct fit or do you have to swap some stuff
thanks

Agreed, it can be done. I know you'd have to change the wiring harness (as you will be going back to OBDI-pre '96) or rewire the entire thing to match the OBDI ECU. Plus you may have issues with the rear and upper left motor mounts being different. For them just be sure you keep your old mounts and get the corresponding ones with the donor car. Most Honda swaps are just like Lego's except for the wiring differences in going to a pre-96 to post 96 or vice versa.

If you are going to a DOHC VTEC engine you would be wise to put the correct ECU in the car as well (or get yours reprogrammed to match the correct ECU's fuel mapping, ignition timing and fuel shut off.

Re: D16Y8 engine swap ??
Not sure if this is the right place to reply for what I am looking for. I just bought a 88 CRX and somebody has put a DOHC VTEC in it. I am clueless as to what size it is and am trying to find out where to get some good info to figure out what it needs. Looks half done and it runs rough. Any help would be great or point me to the right forum. Thx.

if you have to replace the engine completely why not just go for the big upgrade and get a B18C or K20. Ill have a D16Y8 for sale in 6-8 months hopefully

just boost the d16y8... you really can't beat it for the money. Start out aroud 200hp with a junkyard kit then eventually throw in some vitara's with new rods and crank up the boost

Ive thought about doing that but i really wanna do a whole swap. by the time i actually swap the engine out my old engine will have around 150,000 miles on it. It has around 110,000. I also wanna get rid of my automatic transmission at the same time so i can get both the hp upgrade and manual transmission with the B18C GSR motor

Re: D16Y8 engine swap ??
yeah you can do this swap i just did it to my 99 ex you need a obd2 to obd1 jumper for the computer and the distributor the only thing that i have run into is a vacuum leak at the intake manifold that i can not get ride of try Honda bond and a new gasket and still leaks but still runs like a champ so yeas this will work and i did have to swap the driver side mount other than this all is good
