Unhappy Tcc code

Tore out my 02 civic auto trans (would not shift at all- stopped dead on the road) late last fall. Purchased rebuild kit and reman aftermarket torque converter. Tore it apart, cleaned all, replaced all seals and clutches. Cleaned valve body and reassembled and installed Honda OEM fluid. I keep throwing a TCC code and it doesn't feel like the TCC is engaging. I get all forward gears and reverse, but not lock up. Solenoid tests fine on bench. 17ohms and it audibly clicks when voltage is applied. Also, intermittently, the gear selector on the dash does not light up all the time, in every gear. I purchased a new OEM range sensor and installed and adjusted many times, to no avail. Is there a sensor, or switch on the shifter mechanism that would throw this off? If I play with it enough, I can get all the gear positions to light up, while sitting still.
2 issues that I do not think are connected, but who knows. I never worked on a Honda before this.. Any one educated on Honda auto trannys? Any tests I can run? I REALLY do not want to pull the thing out again.
