BMXA or SLXA?

Hi everyone
I’ve gotten the death Nell code of P0730 on my ‘04 Civic. My trans doesn’t hit low gears after it’s been doing about a half day of city driving, then actually locked up on me last week while going grocery shopping.
When I first got my little runner, I had Jiffy Lube ( yeah I know, never again) do a ‘trans service’, which was just a drain/fill. I’m gonna try the 3 drain/fill this week with oem atf, and, pray to the trans gods that’ll fix the slipping. I’ll f not, I guess a rebuilt trans is in my future.
Since I’m broke AF, I want to do this as economically as possible.
What’s the difference between the BXMA and SLXA trans and which should I replace mine with?
04 Civic lx with a 1.7 auto, if it matters.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The exact same type that it came with.

Re: BMXA or SLXA?

And how would I know which one that is? VIN? Manufacturer date? Model number? Also, I still don’t know what the difference is between the two.

Re: BMXA or SLXA?

You'd have to google it.

AFAIK the BMXA came in US and Canada built cars, and SLXA came in Japan built cars.

There are also differences depending on if the engine is VTEC or not, and the model years make a difference too.

I'd say they are not interchangeable, you can find several threads in the forum bugging about how to solve some weird problems they find after bolting in the wrong trans. Most have no resolution posted.
