normal 17" wheel backspacing and tires

What's the wheel size, width, backspacing, and tire size you can run on 17s? I don't want ghetto rubber band tires that are peeling inward off the rim and the rims are sticking out. It's a 2005 civic ex

I was thinking 225/55/17 for the tires?

Re: normal 17" wheel backspacing and tires

225's have shown to be a bit wide for the 7thgen. 215/45-17 will fit with no issues and give you the most accurate speedometer reading with 17" rims installed.

edit: here are 215/45-17s on a lowered (~2" drop) civic. Best pic I could find at such short notice. Note the tires actually have some substance to the sidewall and aren't little ricer bands.

What's the backspacing? Those are perfect because they are tucked in a little bit and most 17s I see are flush with the fender

Re: normal 17" wheel backspacing and tires

I am lowered and they damn near tuck in the rear. Thankfully, with suspension travel, the wheels' camber goes negative so it doesn't rub.

edit: took a tape measure outside and took some pics. Keep in mind my car's parked on an incline (driveway)

As you can see, the top of the rear tire is pretty much at fender level
