Ok so the motor blew in my 01 civic... I went to jdm city to get another 1 and the guy is telling husband that even tho the motor goes in the exactly the same way but he says since its a right hand drive jap motor that the power steering pump and alternator maybe and the intake manifold gasket have to be taken off the blown engine and put on the new engine but if everythings in the exact same spot why do we have to do that????

He does not know what hes talking about...
Read the threads about JDM swaps on here https://www.civicforums.com/forums/7...formance-swaps
It all depends on what you have in your car now vs what you get.
All the engines are similar but you can make it the same by swaping out parts with your current engine.

Are both from the same year? The only difference would be the front 02 sensor because they are different from 01-03 and 04-05. Other than that you are golden. You can swap over the accessories if the new engine doesn't have them like the AC and the power steering and the alternator.

I'm not sure if it's from a 01 or not... The guy didn't say and neither does the paper he gave us..... We told him what car we had and what type of motor we needed and he went on the back and looked at it and everything looks the exact same ..... But he said we would have to take the power steering pump and intake manifold and possibly the alternator off the old motor and put it on the new motor because the new motor is a right hand drive car... And I just don't understand why if everythings in the exact same location.... But we told him out car was a 01.... Idk if that's the year motor or what

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

You're really only purchasing the engine block and cylinder head, though it may have more stuff bolted to it.
Anything that doesn't match the original engine exactly will need to be swapped to the new one.
That includes manifolds, EGR, accessories, and this is a great time to stuff brand new timing components in the new engine.
A head gasket is a lot easier to do with the engine out of the car...and these are well known for blowing the head gasket so you may as well do it now.

If you wanna know what year your engine came from, there's a VIN plate on the backside of the engine block. Take that vin and plug it into a parts website like hondaautomotiveparts.com (click online parts catalog > enter vin number). It'll tell you the exact year and trim level the engine came from.
On the front side of the engine (exhaust manifold side) there should be a stamp denoting the engine model. If that stamp says "D17A2," you're good to go.
As far as the sensor thing guz was talking about, that'll be a non-issue since the affected sensors from the 03 to 04 changes will stay in the car as the engine is swapped out.

2000-2007 Honda Stream rocked the D17A2
JDM Civics rocked D17A or D17A1
