Rep Power: 0 2003 Civic - Found where the fuel smell is coming from...Question?
2003 Honda Civic LX 1.7, 5 Speed transmission, 145,000 miles.
I've had a fuel smell for some time now so I pulled out the back seat, the fuel pump cover and there was a I noticed a puddle of raw gas. I did not notice a crack anywhere on the Fuel Pump Lock Ring. Doesn't mean that there isn't one.
My question is: Do I just replace the Fuel Pump Lock Ring and gasket and all will be fixed? Or do I go a little deeper?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Lock ring and gasket are not likely to fix anything.
Clean off the mess thoroughly and get it all dried, then start the engine and see if you can pinpoint a source of leakage.
After it's dried and before starting the engine, you might throw down some powder (bath talc, right guard) so any leakage evidence may be highlighted and easier to see.

I found the leak. Cracks on top of the fuel Pump. So I guess I'll be replacing it. Glad it's not the gas tank.

I'm the original owner. I lived in Tucson for 7 years so it might be from the 110 plus heat.

The pumps just do this..... from what I have seen/read/experienced the issue may be more prevalent in the hot climate areas. Desert/south/west USA probably sees more of these with problems than cooler places.
There was a recall on 05-10 Odyssey vans for this very problem.
