2002 LX AC stops cooling when hot out

My AC works great when it is cool out. As soon as it gets into the 70's the AC no longer blows cold air. Have had the system tested, everything appears to be fine. I have also tried replacing the relay. Help!!!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Have had the system tested, everything appears to be fine.
Apparently this is not a correct assessment.

Try checking it out while it doesn't cool properly.

Does the compressor quit engaging?
Are the system pressures incorrect?

Re: 2002 LX AC stops cooling when hot out

I just had this problem on my 04 civic. Turns out the clutch is wearing down on the compressor and it is not catching to turn the compressor on. To test this turn on the ac if the compressor is spinning rev the car up to about 3-4000 rpm this should make the compressor shut off. If it does not turn back on tap the end of the compressor with the end of a hammer or something solid if the compressor comes on when you tap on it the clutch is wore down. You can either replace the clutch of take it off its 1 14mm bolt holding it on and pull it off and grind down the end of the clutch a little bit so it will make contact when the compressor engages thats what I done and it fixed it.
