Question 2005 Civic Door Lock Issue

I have read threads on this issue but Im still unclear on what part I should buy to fix this problem

My civic does not have power locks. When I insert the key it is not smooth and I cannot turn the key at all. However, I can still lock and unlock the door from the inside.

Does this mean I need to buy a new actuator? or some other part that?

No power locks = no actuators.

Try some graphite lube if you have not sprayed in liquid lube yet.

Apply it to the side of your key and work it in a few times. (don't squirt graphite directly into cylinder)

Re: 2005 Civic Door Lock Issue

I have sprayed silicone lube inside the key hole and on the key itself. nothing seemed to have changed

Re: 2005 Civic Door Lock Issue

Wet lubes attract dust.

You may need to get a new cylinder for door, and have 2 keys.

Re: 2005 Civic Door Lock Issue

Is that something I buy at the dealer or amazon. I assume its pretty straight forward to install.

Re: 2005 Civic Door Lock Issue

IIRC the new cylinder comes with a key, you have to remove the linkage (plastic swivel clip) and toughest will be getting the metal clip off, and back onto new cylinder.

Edit: Unclip the linkage leading to latch and make sure it is not binding the cylinder before getting parts.

Re: 2005 Civic Door Lock Issue

Tumblers worn/bent inside the lock is real common.

A dealer should be able to retumble your cylinder so you can keep using the original key.....as long as the key is not too worn out.

If necessary, they should have new cylinder plugs if yours is too bad to retumble.
