I don't think any additive can help a 7th gen transmission because of it's inadequate and stingy little filter. There's no way to replace it without rebuilding the POS.

Meh, my story is not all that impressive. My 2001 Civic LX was bought in Ohio, driven to NC, driven to CA, and finally driven back to NC. It has ~ 147,000 miles on it.

At that mileage, those of us in the Midwest are usually left with four nice tires lying next to a pile of rust in the driveway.

New poster here. My 05 Civic EX Special Edition has just under 150,000 miles on it. No plans to get rid of it. Had a bunch of work done on it over the last decade. Still like it, though. Only problem is that it's burning oil somehow and I don't have the money to get it troubleshooted. Other than that, it's great.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Who has the most miles on their 7th Gen Civic?
2001 Honda Civic LX Japanese built version. About 170K+ miles on it. Original owner. AT transmission has been slipping since 60k miles ago between 1st and 2nd gear. It's on and off, and the way I get around it is to let off the gas and wait till the gear engages. So far, I've done the standard maintenance stuff. Did my own AT tranny fluid change, spark plugs, brakes, oil, etc... Also did the timing belt/water pump. The only "major" problems I've had were the window regulator broke and I had to fix that myself. That was a pain in the ***. Both driver and passenger windows became screwed up. The Japanese model regulators, for some reason, cost WAY more than the US versions. Also, I had two CEL codes that came on recently. One was due to the gasoline cap's gasket going dry and letting out EVAC pressure. That was an easy fix. The other was a coolant thermostat change I had to do. Fixed that myself and it was easy. I also did a coolant change at 170k miles too. The thermostat block, surprisingly, was super clean and free of gunk. Coolant looked clean too.
All in all, been really happy with my 01 Civic. She's almost 16 years old. When she hits 20+, I'll buy a new car.

I've got 210k on my 04 VP. Bought the car in 2011 with 105k on it from original owner just after he had timing belt done. I started doing trans fluid changes around 160k or so and just did 2nd timing belt. Had to replace the PCM due to loose bolts on alternator after belt change, but other than that original head gasket and trans. Planning a 2k mi roundtrip in a week down to FL so I'm crossing my fingers.

I got rid of my Civic because the auto transmission needed to be rebuilt because of a bad bearing at 97K miles. Cost was going to be around $2600 plus I never got around to replace the timing belt. I figured I was going to have to dump around $3000 into for all this. So I listed it for sale at $3000 and it sold in a couple hours after listing it.
No plans to replace it yet but it won't be with another Civic that's for sure.

To some that can do their own work, a Civic with 97K that looks good for 3K is a great deal. Belt replacement is a snap for a few $100 for factory parts..belt,H2O pump and tesnioner. Never did a Honda transmission but did one in my son's 4x4 Blazer. Used a video, manual and did have to take it out because of a seal we messed up. Stupid delrin ring on a shaft. You need to compress it to get it in. Went to the transmission and talked to them. Good guy there like Ezone told me they never replace it...too much trouble. Even loaned me a homemade bar with the correct size bore and bevel to slide on it and then slide the shaft in the transmission. Lasted 100K for the tune of maybe $375 in parts. Biggest problem is it takes a two car garage to keep all the parts separate and some improvised parts. We have a lathe and mill. Hope you told them what car needed however. I would have.

Yes I was up front about everything it needed.
I've done transmission R&R's on a number of cars and trucks but never a front wheel drive car. I thoroughly researched the shop manual and youtube videos and while the videos make it look easy it was really beyond my patience level. The rebuild would have still cost me in the neighborhood of 2K if I did the R&R. I didn't want to deal with a used transmission either because it you never know what you're going to get.
I priced the timing belt and related stuff and it was going to run around $200 with OEM parts. I would have done it if the transmission work could have been done for less.
I also didn't want to eventually deal with a blown head gasket that these cars are prone to having. We live on a hill so it would probably happen somewhere in the near future on hot summer's day.

My 2007 Si has 233,000 Mi. and still going strong. Original clutch, suspension, exhaust, etc...
Replaced failed AC unit last summer (bummer)
Clutch is JUST starting to go. (bearing noises)
All highway miles, though so that's kind of cheating!
And no this is not an old photo. From last summer!

With all the claimed improvements in all these generations of Civics, the latest should run forever and be able to do it on water...

I'm beginning to have this uneasy feeling about these cars. What is typical on these cars (as to major problems) to go 1st? And what seems to be the average lifespan of these 7th gens, before major failure occurs?

2004 LX, MT, D17A1, as of today roughly 313,000 miles.
I've done all maintenance myself, standard stuff. Timing belt 2x (last at 302k), clutch/flywheel/master/slave @ 225k (all precautionary), oil changes/fluid/routine here/there.
What it needs soon: Apparently a headgasket (need to pressurize to confirm- maybe I'll get lucky and it's just the radiator or thermostat), exhaust manifold/cat (cracked- and has been for at least 100k), at least one ball joint...
I'm shooting for 500k, so I guess I'll be doing some more work...

2005 LX sedan, 5-speed manual. Bought new and now sitting with 250,000+ miles.
Putting a new clutch and flywheel in this week. Other than that, just the normal maintenance per the book. 2 timing belt changes, every seal replaced, 5 sets of tires, 3 batteries, 2 sets of brakes, etc.

2002 LX sedan (D17A1) manual, 250,000 miles and still going strong. Original engine and tranny as far as I know, I do most work myself, and I had the timing belt changed when I bought it in 2013
I'm just getting tired of the road noise, and I want to have it repainted cause it looks rough. Kind of debating an upgrade in the next year though (E36 3-series anyone?)

now has 424k km, no major work performed
like 4 wheel bearings,
2 rotors,
rear control arms
rear struts
3 oil pan gaskets
new timing belt and water pump at 360k km
alternator failed after 405k km
the starter just went a few days ago
brakes barely work something is smashing up front on the driver side everytime i depress the brake pedal so i just use my ebrake
oil change every 5-20k km
bump start my car whenever i need to use it
has been my most reliable car to date, drove it across the country 6+ times and has never left me stranded. crashed it while drunk in the yukon, driven over frozen lakes in northwest territories and i had a jealous ex-bf of a friend of a friend ram my car 4 times.
i love this car, it's my dream for it to see every province in canada. so far i have yet to reach Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Nunavut. i'm not going to let this car rest until it has seen every province and territory in this country. also i want to take it to the most northern road in canada, to the newly built permanent road from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk.
also want to reach Churchill MB this year, an ice road is being built and should be finished by christmas.
sooke, vancouver island (before i crashed it)
mount currie, british columbia on my way to yukon
somewhere between watson lake and whitehorse, yukon
survived the liard highway that starts in fort nelson, bc and ends in fort providence, northwest territories
(nevermind the native scum i ran over in this picture)
prosperous lake ice road on the ingraham trail, yellowknife, northwest territories
this bitch has survived periless thawing ice crossings
on the prairie in saskatchewan
i'm on a boat mother****er take a look at me (vancouver island to mainland ferry)
a silly mountain somewhere
jealous ex-bf
my car bringing me to undiscovered lands and allowed me to see the aurora borealis for the first time
posing with my precious, and some hoe i met in YK
the badlands in alberta, near drumheller i believe this was right beside voodoo trails
it brought me here and there, and most importantly; back again
