Tachometer on wrong side.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic Lx (manual, 102k miles). I was pulling away from a parking spot, thinking I had it in 1st gear, so when I pushed on the gas, it obviously didn't move.

That being said, the tachometer must have gone to 4 thou, or 5 thou rpms.

As I actually put it in first and drove away, I looked at the tachometer, and it was on the opposite side of 1000. It looked like this-----> Q it was past 8000

Now, when the car is in idle, it falsely reads at 7000 and when I rev it, it goes on revving to 8000. The car isn't actually at that rpm, though.

The car is driving fine and everything feels normal. I really have no idea where to start to fix this. I know when to shift and don't need the tachometer to know when to shift, it's just irritating that it's wrong.

I'm not very savvy with cars at all. Where do I start to try and fix this? Anything is welcome. Thanks.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Tachometer on wrong side.

The gauge self diagnostic check should make all the needles sweep min to max and back.
