P1457 and General Parts Question

2005 Civic Reverb (AC, or DX w/o side airbag) @ 207k kM

This is not my only current issue with my Civic, but I wanted to start a new thread for this specific issue I am having. So I have a P1457 code which relates to the evap system, specifically the pressure sensors detecting a leak in the system. I've done some through reading and it seems like the 'usual' cause is the purge valve getting rusted up and leaking and I live in Canada.... enough said there.... So that's fine, I'm taking it to Honda to get it all done up nicely (though it is really not that difficult of a job, but I don't have a garage or a nice place to do the fix ). Anyway, they are gettin' out the parts cannon and firing both valves and the canister at it to solve the issue, which I really don't have a problem with either since the likelyhood of a leak reappearing is somewhat likely anyway since I'm sure the other parts are a bit rusted up too.

Now, my real question relates to the used parts.... can I tell the techs I want these parts back? I mean, I would pay for the new parts if I did the fix myself, but do you think these parts have a 'core charge' along with them? I was never sure what parts usually come with a 'core charge' so I am just asking to see if anyone knows....

I want the parts because if the other parts are not leaking I can use them as a back-up in case of future problems/leaks.

Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Absolutely. Better tell them before the job begins, otherwise they might toss em in the trash right off.

but do you think these parts have a 'core charge' along with them?
Nope.
