I rotated my tires because it was starting wobble at 60mph. Now, it does it at 80. I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas?

Two common things: Wheels need balancing and/or brake rotors or drum is warped/ out of round.
Neither will heal itself and it will get worse... If the brakes are involved it would likely be noticed when you use them, so I'd start with the wheel balance. If that doesn't solve it, look at the brakes.

Rotating only moved the wobble to another corner of the car, that doesn't correct the wobble.

Evaluate the tires, and balance them if all are otherwise ok.

If rotating wheels to the opposite corners of the car... where do you feel the wobble? In the wheel, or in your seat?

If the wobble is due to a wheel on the front pair, you'll feel it through the wheel. If due to a rear wheel, it'll be felt more through your seat.

Moving the wheel from one corner to the opposite will also rule out out-of-service-limit rotors/drums, IF the wobble also moves to the opposite corner.

It can be difficult to determine where wobbles are coming from at 80mph. Years ago my sister once had something really wrong with her car. It turned out her front tire tread was really low and she was spinning the wheels in rain and snow. But to hear her describe it you'd have thought it was some major suspension issue. She is a bonafide genius who has zero mechanical feel...
At first I thought it was just her lugs weren't properly torqued...

Not really. Wheel shaking, front. Seat shaking, rear. If you can't tell which end of you is shaking more than the other... well, it takes all types. I'm sure the OP can, however.


Oh gawd... I've gotten my Civic AND my Escort back from a local Sears without proper torque set. Turns out the tech was a bit stingy and bought a bar-type torque wrench to do his 0.5-sec measurements ... which was off from the Snap-On Gold 3/8 clicker I brought to compare, by a full 8 lbs/ft. His svc mgr and I had a laugh... in his frowny face, of course. So just having it professionally balanced, doesn't guarantee professional work. All techs esp flat-rate, feel the temptation to rush things and deal with the mistakes later. Pros that last don't give in to that, is the difference.

Another thing I had to point out, was *how* he was torquing -- finger-snug, then fully-off the jack, then torque. At least he was cross-torquing across the wheel -- that's the only thing he wasn't effing up.

And bsmiley... btw... check your lug nut torque.

So... you have a balancer at home? 'Cause I live in an apartment. We've been over this.

All my Civic tires balanced perfectly on the machine, btw. Just the mounting demo he showed us almost made me spit out my sandwich. The tech was a Micronesian who had a different idea about wheel install than I did. And by different idea, I mean 'wrong'. When I went to get my second set of Bridgestones last month, he was already gone.

Hey... you try getting your homeland irradiated so badly by nuclear testing, the whole top few feet of an entire island had to be disposed of. That said... not a fan of the workers who come from there with gov't offers for guaranteed placement.

Had one (a No-Mar too, good one), sold it to fund the move back here... but obviously not one for cars... bike tires are a *lot* cheaper to do yourself than car tires. :P Accurate as hell, too... 1/2 gram on our team racebikes was the standard... anything below that, friction in the bearings kept us from seeing (ABEC 7 too, so not for lack of trying).

OP: let us know what you find re: where the wobble is coming from... just to get us from fishtailing in the mud to back on topic.

It's shaking at the steering wheel. This is something I need to go to the repair shop for it's a balancing issue right?

Went to my local shop. They suggested I get at least 2 used tires, and that should fix the issue. I got 2 used one for $80, and they put them up front. It fixed the issue. I went over 100mph and no wobble what so ever, haha!
