Question Need help with Front Engine Mount (02 Civic)

Hello all!

I thought I'd register here since all the information I need to find about my car is scattered from one end of the internet to the other in small vague bits.

Anyway, the Front Engine Mount for my 2002 Civic DX 1.7L needs to be replaced because it's starting to crack and every post I've seen on various forums are saying how bad aftermarket mounts are because they apparently don't last long and also that they add significant vibrations compared to the OEM mounts. I found an online shop for Canadians that sell various brands such as Westar, Beck/Arnley, DEA, etc, but I'm hesitant to buy for these 2 reasons. My local Honda Dealership wants $130 + tax for the mount itself which is pretty outrageous in my opinion.

Anyway that can offer advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks, but I'm looking for someone that can elaborate further regarding my question on aftermarket mounts and such. I already know about Torontohondaparts.com

Re: Need help with Front Engine Mount (02 Civic)

Oh.
I didn't see a specific question in your first post.

I thought you were looking for a cheaper source for OEM parts than your local dealer.

Re: Need help with Front Engine Mount (02 Civic)

I have learned my lesson replacing parts every 2 months. I'm going to buy strictly OEM parts from now on. You can sometimes get away with aftermarket but why take the risk? Do it right the first time.

So, are you guys saying aftermarket mounts like Anchor branded mounts are complete and utter garbage compared to the OEM mounts?

Re: Need help with Front Engine Mount (02 Civic)

I can't say they are all garbage as I haven't tried them all. But how many miles did u get out of your OEM mount? You can do it again with another OEM. SO you have to decide if it's worth the gamble to hope and get a good aftermarket amidst the garbage or be guaranteed a decent OEM mount.

Re: Need help with Front Engine Mount (02 Civic)

I am not impressed with Anchor mounts. Complete and utter waste of cash. Looks like they're made in a jungle clearing with anvils and hacksaws and sooty faces.

Look up the price of the OEM mount on Majestic Honda. Then print that out and see if your parts droids will match it. Let them know they're a certified Honda dealer out of RI, so they know you're not trying to deceive them.

I like DEA's mounts... but I've seen that the quality depends on the subcontractor (probably ten guys in a corrugated shed) in China. My Escort front and rear trans mounts were far and away superior to the Anchors I almost installed, but have seen that the same quality wasn't reflected in a similar mount for another make of car. This is why you should just not drink beer or partake in organic pain management for a week , and get the OEM one -- you'll know the nonsense is bypassed, and it'll work and last.

And accurate too, sadly.

Rear trans mount for an auto '99 Messcort SE... the DEA is on the left, Stankor on the right. There's about 20% less damper material as well as being misaligned in the direction of stress (both compromising the life of the mount esp in cold weather)... the center collar is a roll pin rather than a cut and chamfered solid steel tube (and obviously folded by not-so-skilled hands)... the welds are shorter and less accurate, and when I tried to fit the mount onto my crossmember under the car, it didn't fit correctly. No such issues with the DEA, only one possibly being shorter studs (which during install was actually a benefit, not a flaw). It also much more closely resembled the stock OEM Ford trans mount -- which only lasts ~75K before failure anyway. Junkier junk.
