stalling/loss of power after excessive shifting

i drive a 2001 ex. every time i am caught in traffic or i let my car sit in neutral for periods of time i lose all power to the engine and the RPMs wont go higher than 1500 even if i stomp on the pedal. or if i have done a lot of shifting, if i were in traffic and such, i lose power if i downshhift to accelerate. then i have to coast it or limp it to somewhere i can park it for literally 30 minutes then it starts and drives no problem.

the CEL is on and the codes are: P1361 (TDC 1 sensor), P1362 (interruption in TDC 1 sensor circuit), P0336 (performance problem in CKP sensor circuit)

in the last 4 years i have replaced my CAT and crankshaft sensor.

have any ideas to resolve? if so, is this something that i can do or does it require semi-professional skills?? i am not a semi-pro. i usually change my breaks and oil. rebuilt my AC system once. and a couple components on the engine.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: stalling/loss of power after excessive shifting

Since you have the CKP (crankshaft sensor) code, unplug the CKP connector and look up in the plug (on the harness and in the sensor). See if any of the terminals have green corrosion, that would cause a poor connection. Inspect the wiring to the sensor. Inspect female terminals for good tension.

For the CMP code (P1361/2), check the camshaft end play.
Check the camshaft for excessive end play.
The maximum allowable amount of end play is 0.5 mm (0.02 inch)(see page 6-40 of the 2001%u201302 Civic Service Manual).

If excessive play is found, there is bulletin 01-083 about replacing the cylinder head. This bulletin only applies to a specific set of VIN ranges.

If play is not excessive, then it could just be due for a new cam sensor.
