headers ?

i have a 2005 1.7l civic and my exhaust manifold is cracked,to get another one is going to cost me around $300,but i can get headers for $80...would it be harmful to the engine or gas mileage to go with headers just to save the cost of buying an exhaust manifold?

Re: headers ?

If you have an Ex then no, but an Lx, Dx VP you will be removing the cat as well. Not good for the environment.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: headers ?

CEL will be on with a P0420 code. Since it will be on all the time, you may never know if there is another problem until it quits running.

Gotta pass an emissions test? You won't.

unless you use a mechanical oxygen sensor simulator then throw your visual inspection guy a little something extra wink wink. if your in to hugging trees you could always throw on a high flow racing cat further down the line.

A licensed professional would not risk jeopardizing his personal license nor the shops license.

That said, there are probably plenty of people working at certain places that are less than professional.

EDIT: And it depends on the type of testing done in your locale.
