I'd be all over the shop that did the work.

Someone owes.
This is why a good business has insurance.

BTW: Who sells a blue valve cover gasket?

Re: Bye engine you will be missed

I think the blue gasket is made by fel-pro or something like that, a good ole auto zone special.

Re: Bye engine you will be missed

doesn't really matter what parts were used or who makes them,

this is an installation error, plain and simple

the shop should cover the cost of this 100%, you brought them a good running vehicle, that is what they owe you now

Re: Bye engine you will be missed

Stick with OEM for gaskets, stay away from felpro! I had to have my valve gasket done 3 times cause the felpros leaked not long after installing. Finally have OEM on now.

Apparently replacing and resealing a new valve gasket is not easy and very easy to not do properly.

Re: Bye engine you will be missed

valve cover gasket, you mean? If so, it's really easy to do properly. You just gotta make sure it sits in its groove, apply RTV where the manual says to (at sharp corners), not be completely idiotic and take your time.

Re: Bye engine you will be missed

How the hell did this even happen? I work at a shop and any car we do ANY repair on we take out for a test drive then look it over and make sure it is 100% and no leaks. If this happened to me it would be my job for sure. Also for any timing belt job we always use OEM parts

Take it back. Make them fix it, but make sure that another shop does the work, and they pay for it.

Are you being a pest? Seriously, think about it. Are you?

Some people are just looking for the "right place" to take a fall. Lawsuit time.... It has happened before, some are always looking for a payday.
That floor is slick. Puddle of oil, whatever. Suddenly there is a new name on the sign out front.

99% of customers have absolutely no business in the shop, these people must be escorted by the adviser if they really need to come in.

Some people actually do know about the common "shop rules" and more or less abide by them. They are free to come in.

Some might wander in through the bay doors and be a PITA, being nosy and trying to talk and hang out, asking too many questions.....or might see something they really shouldn't see. (*Looks at mikey1*)
Basically making my progress come to a grinding halt.
I can't work and carry on a casual conversation at the same time...and it gets serious if I forget where I was when I got interrupted.

At this point all work stops, and I just leave. I may disappear, or I may go get the manager and insist they be escorted out of my area.

Figure it this way: My time is worth between $2 and $10 per minute, maybe more. If you interrupt my productivity, that not only screws up the revenue and costs us money, it may cause serious problems with the work. (Did I tighten those lugnuts?)

OTOH, are they hiding something?
Would you be able to tell if they rebuilt your old engine instead of dropping a used engine in?
Would you care as long as it works right?
