Common for Auto trans to go out? Info about Cooler as well?

Looking at getting a 05 for a DD s it common for the auto trans to go out? I've been reading alot and I've came across alot of topics about auto's going out.

The motors are pretty bullet proof from what I've seen. This car has 102k and is very clean.

Also I found some diy but pictures are down. What cooler and filter setup did you guys use?

i think the trannys are kind of "hit and miss" so to speak, i dont think they "go out" any more than any other cars do, personally i have 250,000km on my original tranny with no problems,

i also believe the trannys lifespan is somewhat influenced by how the car is driven

They had the problem resolved by 05.... the question would be, has it seen any maintenance ??

exactly. It was one owner, a older lady. Unfortunately unlike Toyota, you can't enter the vin at honda and see its records. I use to work at honda but haven't in years. I would do the timing belt and change all fluids. When I go back to look at it today I'll check trans fluid. If they have changed it, well then no real way to tell.

If you are curious this is the car and no this is not the price I would be paying. About 1200 less.

Give the fluid a look and smell. Our dealer suggest 30k interval....the mm system, who knows.

MM system?

To be honest we never smelled it.. If it was starting to get dark we changed it. Do you know what honda did in 05 to make the transmission better?

If it is burn/bad what should it smell like?

Maintenance Minder.

If it has never been done you should be able to tell by color.

I think they changed something with the clutch plates makeup ??

Certainly looks and sounds like a nice car. Nice when they have svc records....but the fact it is clean says something.

When you do the belt interval, do it right. Water pump, seals, gasket kit etc..

No doubt. I work out of a shop behind my house and urge customers to do the whole deal when doing timing belt. One time I had customer that didn't want the seals or water pump. 3 months later the car was back in my shop because of oil leak from the cam and w/p started leaking.

Do you guys/gals get your honda parts online at any certain place? I found a few that are cheaper but didn't know if it was the cheapest for OEM honda parts.

Majestic, hondapartsnow are a couple I have used. Don't have any large orders anymore and S&H will drive the cost higher then any savings.

You will have a pretty large order though.

I think 01-02 had some problems, maybe into 03? Not sure of other Honda models & years with tranny issues, but there were some.

They made some changes to something....

I read all of GB's threads and it scared me so bad my 05 got oem changes every 25k.

They fixed it quietly and it seems to have worked (built in Japan you know?) Never hear of 8th gen AT troubles unless someone kills one.
