Re: Timing Belt Tools
My friend bought that one for his TB job and it worked fine^
You're gonna need 2, 1/2" drive breaker bars and an extension long enough to clear your fenders. You can slip longer pipes over the breaker bars if its too hard to get it off using just the breaker bar (which it definitely will be). If you have a D-series the crank bolt is 17mm, if you have a B series the bolt is 19mm.
Most people own their own their own tools, I recommend snap-on if you can afford it, but if you want affordable tools i recommend craftsman.

Re: Timing Belt Tools
thanks....
i have a 6 foot industrial iron sprinkler pipe that i normally use as a breaker bar with a ratchet, but im assuming a ratchet wont be strong enough for this....
other questions....
how long should the breaker bars be?
how would i tell which engine type i have? mine is the standard 1.7 non vtec.....it is a 2005 model....
would i need the extra long tensioner bolt that i have been reading about? i am going to replace the tensioner also....
how do i tell what model my vehicle is?....as in DX EX, etc etc....it is a 4-door and all it says on the back trunk is "special edition"....does that mean its just an SE?

Re: Timing Belt Tools
No problem. Get a standard breaker bar, a ratchet wont be strong enough. You're not going to believe how tight the crank bolt is believe me lol. Not sure exactly how long the breaker bar is but the handle would probably be around a foot and a half. Something like this-

You have a D17A1 so your crank bolt will be 17mm.
I have no clue about the extra long tensioner bolt, i would just but the OEM timing belt kit from Honda. So whatever that calls for is what you should use.
As for your model, the special edition was only sold in LX or EX trim levels. The EX has vtec so your car should be an LX Special Edition.

Re: Timing Belt Tools
thanks again...
apparently there is a newer updated version of the tesioner that is a bit wider....if you use the old bolt it will be too short and this can happen....
