Talking 2002 Honda Civic LX exhaust

I am wanting to remove the stock exhaust pipe on my car and replace it with a 3" straight pipe (don't know anything about cars) and i was wondering that if by doing this will it mess up my engine when the o2 sensors are not getting the right information because i will no longer have a catalytic converter.. I have been looking all over for an answer but have not found one that directly says yes or no, just lots about how people are getting better MPG when they do it but never say what kind of car they have or if they even have o2 sensors

Re: 2002 Honda Civic LX exhaust

You don't need a 3" exhaust.. Your car needs some back pressure to work properly.

You have an LX, your cat is integrated into your exhaust manifold. That said, if you replace just exhaust piping, you'll still have a cat

I wanted to do a 3" from the headers back... mainly because i have a friend that has a bunch of 3" exhaust pipe that i could have for free and because wouldn't it make a deeper sound? I just want a nice deep sound from my exhaust... maybe you have an idea that you would not mind sharing with me..
thanks for the great information on the cat i did not know this... when i was looking under the car i could see the muffler and then another part that looked similar to the muffler that i just figured was the cat

The thing before the muffler is the resonator. Bigger isn't always deeper. Get some headers off of an Ex, a random tech high flow cat, and a decent cat back exhaust. I believe some guys on here have the Magnaflow exhaust and they said it had a nice deep sound. There are videos online of different systems.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic LX exhaust

3" inch exhaust is what they put on 400hp v8's to get a deep rumble. You will lose a lot of bottom end torque and the car will be seriously slow and annoying to drive with 3". 3" straight pipes will also make your car sound extremely farty, un-tuned and rice like. Get a nice Borla cat back exhaust if you want a deeper sound.

this.

I only ran a 2.25" exhaust when I was turbo'd and that was just fine. If you want a good sounding exhaust, look at the A'PEXi WSII or the RSR ex-mag exhausts.. Those are the only two I really remember being the exhaust of choice for most people with a 7thgen
