And how often should you replace them?

Re: What pulleys does 7th gens have?

You replace it when you flush your vtec fluid... Which should roughly be 100k

Re: What pulleys does 7th gens have?

That's exactly why i don't use the vee tak...too much maintenance involved. The synthetic stuff is like $50 a quart.

Re: What pulleys does 7th gens have?

I use the oem vtec fluid. It's pretty cheap at my local honda stealership since I have a friend that works there.

It's still expensive as hell. That's why I don't go over 4k rpms.

Drain and fill, not flush. Especially not with synthetic.
Remember to clean the VTEC solenoid's filter after. People always forget to clean it.

Muffler bearings are also highly overlooked. How do you guys constantly forget those?

Re: What pulleys does 7th gens have?

You have a point. They should actually be changed at the same time, as on most models with VTEC, the muffler bearings are lubricated with the same fluid, and therefore increase the frequency at which you should replace the vtec filter.

The only pulley that normally needs replacing on an engine is the harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer usually has a rubber component to isolate vibrations and this can break down over time. I would think this would be examined when the timing belt is done and replaced if necessary. Since the one for the Civic is in $40 range I could see where some may do it with the timing belt just to be safe.

aw, dude.. 50/50 vtec fluid is crap.. You shoulda searched it before buying it. There are a buncha threads on how shitty the 50/50 stuff is..

Actually, it's not terrible if you upgraded from vtec to vtech though, but I'd still stick to full synthetic

W16 would never fit inside the hood, unless you carve into the firewall.
and it doesnt have vtak, so wiring would be a mess.

When an auto tensioner is replaced it is usually not because the pulley is worn but because the spring that supplies the tension is weakened. In the case of the timing belt it is done before the spring weakens and the timing belts slips.

There is nothing in the A/C, alternator or camshaft pulley to wear so no need to replace.

Re: What pulleys does 7th gens have?

The only w16 that will fit in the civics engine bay without cutting into the firewall is the 8.0l from the veyron. You just need a stage 2 clutch. Otherwise its a direct swap
