Well folks, looks like I could be retiring my 01 Civic tonight or this weekend

New car on the way (well thats if i decide to take it), just gotta work a final price for it tonight after work with the dealer. I have to say going to a dealer (even though this is private family owned one) im a bit intimidated in going about it. It just hit me that yes i would now be having monthly payments. Finance for 72 months. Any tips? Financing all went through and approved and ready to process. Guys are expected me shortly.

Car is white 09 Civic SI with 60k km/ 40k miles.

Only thing im not looking forward to is re-doing all or some the mods I have oRn mine now.

- tint
- remote start And alarm
- 3M on hood
- aftermarket deck
- aftermarket speakers
- all the wiring for the amp kit
- HID

I would cut some of those as i could live without some. But the absolute musts for me are aftermarket deck (unless theres a way to hook up my iphone to the OEM radio). Im gonna see if the OEM speakers are decent, and are tolerable. If so that would be great, dont have to buy new speakers. If I do, i would only upgrade the fronts and keep the rears stock. Ive learned my lesson from my car now, since i almost never have anyone in the back so i wouldnt bother with upgrading the rears. I can carry over my amp and sub and amp kit from my current car into the new one.

Not sure if 8th gens have white lights for headlights but if theyre decent then i wont bother with HID. HIDs are nice but not for reflector housings.

As excited as I am right now (just got the call an hour ago), it really has hit me....am I ready for a monthly payment? Am I ready for redoing some the mods I did to my last car?

WIll post back later with an update

Re: Well folks, looks like I could be retiring my 01 Civic tonight or this weekend

What's the finance interest rate?

Often finance rates for used cars are quite high, especially in comparison to the rates offered by manufacturers for used cars. Since you don't have great credit, like you mentioned before, those rates can be even worse.

You've had it inspected by a mechanic?
You did a title search to make sure it's not a rebuilt?
You're confident that you're prepared for the higher insurance, lower fuel efficiency and premium gas, and monthly payment?
Is it a manual or automatic, if it's a manual, do you have another manual to practice on since you will inevitably freak out when you grind the gears learning?

Good for you for making a decision towards your future. We all know your current Civic tore you apart mentally, so lets hope this one treats you a bit better. Good luck with your future endeavours. You should keep your current Civic as a winter beater and a little car to toy around with.

Re: Well folks, looks like I could be retiring my 01 Civic tonight or this weekend

Just got back home, my heart is racing. I dont know what to think. Nice people running this place but the sales guy was a bit of a *****. He was totally pushy, i understand i went in 2hrs before close after work but he just seemed a bit fake.

"We answered your questions, we took the time to get you financed, we're getting lots of calls on it, now its time to make a decision. A nice way to put it either take it or get out." I was a bit taken back by that comment. He didnt say it rudely but wtf. If he was getting SO MANY calls on it, why is he pressuring me so hard?! It was unbelievable!

Cause when i got there, and he let me test drive the car for 30mins on my own. When i got back he said that another guy was there asking about the car and if i dont take it, he will take it....hes coming back at 6pm tonight which was 1hr! I TOTALLY WASNT EXPECTING THIS! To have to make a decision right on the spot. Which was a lie from the guy because they closed at six when i left! So there was no guy to come back for the car! he flat out pulled a fast one on me!!!! RED FLAG?

He showed me the carfax, and inspection report that was done 4 days ago. He said the car was bought by them from a Mazda dealership.

I looked it over real quick. Notice a lot of insurance renewals on it, like 5 or 6, and remember this car is only 3yrs old. I asked about it and how many owners with this car. They said they didnt know. But going by the dates, i looked it over REAL close in the office and noticed there was a couple renewals that would fall within 5months apart. Hmmm bit odd no? Insurance renewals usually are yearly. No rebuilt status and no accidents but an insurance claim was on it worth $10. Hmm i thought what would be $10 worth of damage. Bit fishy no?

Car was in mint shape aside from the front bumper having a couple small dents the size of a penny and what looked to be someone putting a cheap touchup paint job on it. I asked the guy about it and he said he didnt know. I thought odd. He said maybe someone backed into it. RED FLAG?????!

I dont know guys, this $10 INSURANCE claim seems real fishy to me.

I ended up in the finance mgrs office and it was like 5mins till close, they said I had to make a decision. I told them id take it, but i only said that cause i need the night to think it over. They wouldnt let me have the night to think it over so i said id take it and they said to put a $500 deposit on it. Im scheduled to go back tommorow morning to see the finance mgr to work out the papers. But i dont know man im having doubts, my heart is racing.

No i dont have another manual car to learn but i have family who would teach me. I drove it on my own for 30mins today just going up and down the street.

I GOT 14HRS TILL I SEE THIS FINANCE MGR AGAIN TOMMOROW MORNING TO DECIDE.

I still got my 01 civic. The thing is, i have a guy whos still interested in buying my car for 3500. Ive been putting him on hold for the past couple weeks cause i was browsing cars. Hes been patiently waiting.

What do you think man? Is there red flags in my story here?

I dont appreciate being lied to and being seen like a dummy.

Car dealerships and more specifically salesmen have two approaches; they make you like them so you want to buy a car from such a great guy, or they place a massive amount of pressure on you to purchase. Clearly, what's happening here is the later and you have no obligation whatsoever to purchase because they took the time to finance.

What's the finance rate, or what's the monthly payment?
That really is important, because a lot of the time low credit, "we'll get you financed", dealerships charge interest rates so high you'd be better off actually buying new.

Five insurance renewals is a bit odd, most likely you would be the third owner, and that's not desirable on a 2009.

A $10 insurance claim is literally impossible, that's like 6 minutes worth of time in a body shop lol..

Get your own carfax and have a mechanic or BCAA inspect it before purchasing.

$3500 is a bit low for your car, at least in Vancouver it would be, I would probably ask $5000.

Another thing is, he said the car from the last owner was stolen but was recovered. It was bought out by the owners auto insurance at the time and car was given a new VIN #. But he said its clear, no leins, no nothing on it, its clean.

Ive never heard of this, i was totally taken back so i didnt know what to think. What you guys think?

Walk away unless it's way way below market value. Cars that are theft recoveries are normally rebuilds.

What's the asking price?

10 dollars and 6 minutes in a body shop = bottle of touch up paint.

Re: Well folks, looks like I could be retiring my 01 Civic tonight or this weekend

The guy couldnt explain the $10 insurance claim, he goes "maybe it was the touchup job on the 2 small spots on the front bumper" I thought ya right. Bullshit.

The guy wont let me do an inspection cause he said one was already done and no need for another. And he said i either take it or get out cause apparently he has so many calls on it.

Finance would be through TD bank. Starts 19.5% for 10 months then cuts in half in the 11th month for the remaining 62 (so total 6yrs).

$16,995 but the guy went down to $16,695 with 71k km on it. Everything is still stock, brakes are 40%.

I dont know man, if a car is stolen, how does it become clear again? I never knew cars could get reassigned new vins! When he told me this, I thought immediate RED FLAG!

**** man, i feel i need to get my deposit back tommorow. I think this deal has red flags all over. Plus the guy flat out lied to my face!

*cough*cough* ruuuunnnnn, don't walk. Switched out VIN #. Ruuuuunnn, doubtful you'll get your deposit back though.

I don't know if you did the math, but I just did (roughly) and that will be around $7000.00 interest your going to paying on that loan.

He changed the vin to cover up the fact that it was stolen and rebuilt, because he didn't want it to show up.

think about it this way, the Mazda dealership would have sold the car themselves if it were as popular as he claims and in good shape.

OOOOOO HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I WAS DUMB SO DUMB! I WANTED TO PUT IT ON MY CREDIT CARD BUT MY CARD DIDNT SWIPE PROPERLY SO I ENDED UP USING MY BANK CARD. $500! OH ****!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS GONNA BE HELL, ITS JUST STARTED!

I BETTER GET MY MONEY BACK, $500 IS 4 DAYS OF PAY FOR ME! I CANT AFFORD TO LOSE IT!

I NEED TO COME UP WITH A GOOD REASON TOMMOROW WHY IM BACKING OUT.

What a sneaky bastard! I asked him why he bought it from Mazda, he said that "they have so many civics, most of their civics are 2011, 2012 models that most people want and what they push most cause they make the most. So they sold us their excess stock."

I never even knew you could change vin numbers!

Sometimes depending on if it's a credit union/bank they'll back you up like a credit card company.

Go into the dealership with *****, seriously, don't leave until they give you the deposit back or call the cops.

BUT WHAT IS MY REASON FOR BACKING OUT? I cant say "i have doubts, too many red flags and the fact its stolen and been registered 5 or 6 times"
They wont take that. They would probably get mad.

What if I said something like my girlfriend or parents dont approve of it. Or I got an offer for another civic last night after i saw you guys and im gonna go with that one.

I NEED TO GET MY CASH BACK! I dont care about the car anymore. You guys saved me. You think calling the cops would actually do anything?

In the end of the day it's 6 years of your life and $23000 of your money. You don't need to give anybody any reason beyond, "I've changed my mind". If they get mad it's their problem not yours.

If you call the cops it will do nothing, what I'm say is, don't leave the dealership until they call the cops to remove you.

You don't need to give them any reason, and they will get mad and be push you even harsher to buy the car, but that's how they do business. Just ignore it and push twice as hard back. Bring a friend if you need too.

No.

Customers not buying is part of the business model, you don't owe them anything.

But if they call the cops on me, ill get taken to jail. Are you saying if cops show up, then make a scene with them and cops will hopefully be in favour of my side?

No don't be a *****. Walk in there and say you will not be able to buy the car and that you need your deposit back. Don't let them walk all over you. It's 6 YEARS of your life. Would you give that up just to make a lying salesman happy?

Yeah, be dominant, not submissive.

I do think your going to lose your deposit though. It hurts, but better then being on the hook for 6yrs/$23k
