Hey everybody!
I've been lurking here for quite a while but never joined, as I'm not yet a Civic owner. Hopefully that will change quite soon!
I have my eye on a 2002 Honda Civic EX Coupe, 154k on the odometer, one owner, no available service records, no red flags in Carfax. I found it on a dealer lot for $5700. And I'm Rhode Island, if that counts.
I'm having the car into my mechanic's shop next week for a mechanical inspection but I've done a visual inspection. The car has a few small dings and scratches and the interior is as worn as I'd expect a ten-year-old car to be. Nothing major. No mystery stains!
Mechanically, the dealer is replacing the driver's seat to fix the rocking (no news to you folks!) and replacing the clutch.
Edmunds estimates dealer retail to be $4682 (clean condition, 4/5)
KBB estimates dealer retail to be $6321 (although KBB forced me to put the condition in as excellent, 5/5)
Since you're all experts on the Civic, I'm if you think that the dealer's price point of $5700 is fair, assuming that the mechanical inspection comes back clean? I feel like it's on the high side, but they are replacing the clutch.
What would you consider to be a fair price for that Civic?
(and if this is in the wrong spot, I apologize. since it's a 7th gen Civic, I thought this would be the most appropriate place.)

And after reading through that message several times, I managed to leave out the fact that the car is a 5speed manual, so I don't have to worry about the common issues with the auto trans.

That sounds a little high to me. I paid 5800 for mine and it had 95,000 miles on it, but the dealer couldn't sell it cause it was a manual and they were doing a favor for a customer. Maybe offer 4500 and see if they meet you in the middle. Honda's hold there value very well so a cheap one usually has a lot of miles on it.

Depends on the area... I've found the midwest to be a lot more expensive than most other places. I bought an 01 EX manual with 93k for 7100 which is actually less than the going rate here in Wisconsin. I think you found a decent deal. Try to negotiate it down a bit. Good to see a new member... hope you become more than just a "lurker"

There was a Honda Civic for sale 2002, owner mentioned the ABS light is on, brought it to the dealer and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it...any ideas?
