I have been searching around for a while and have seen some threads about people kinna talking about relocating a battery, but havnt found anything saying how difficult it is or the best way to go about it. Have any of you done it or know anything about doing it?

I've seen people get a smaller battery and put in near the front bumper. Fusebox and battery relocation frees up a lot of space and clutter. Going to the trunk would be a pain, and the wire costs a bit to get back there. Not too much though

Ive debated running to the the trunk, I already have the 0 gauge ran for amps so it wouldnt be so bad. If you do end up moving it take some pictures, I might do this when spring roles around the corner.

There's two things to consider when moving a battery to the trunk..
One, the decrease in cranking voltage as a result of the resistance of the long run of wire.
Two, you need a sealed box and it needs to be vented out of the trunk, batteries let off gases.

i was thinking about moving it to the trunk to free up space in the engine bay. how would i go about putting it in the bumper. i researched on summit and they can get kinna pricey. but was thinking about getting a custom sub box and hiding it behind the box so it is accessible when i fold down the seats. i have seen something somewhere about it but cant remember where. thanks for the input guys

so another google search has yielded better results. I guess searching for things while tired and angry does no good. looks pretty simple might do it in a few months, unless i can get some wire from the guys in my motorpool. they are always helpful.

I have actually moved my battery to the trunk with success...However, my wife thought that I didn't need the pics that I took of my battery and deleted them off my camera...Hmmm, why would I take pics of something, if I didn't need them?....Anyhow, I don't have any pics...I will take more of the finished product, and post it for you...

What do you think cranking power would be in the winter? Because if you have your battery in the engine bay I bet it's a lot colder than in the trunk

well cold cranking shouldn't be any different b/c if the car is cold it will be the same temp under the hood as in the trunk. The only thing i have found is that the ampage might be a little lower b/c of the farther distance the current travels, but i just bought a Duralast Gold battery, and at $110 it better work!

It's not about temperature, it's about amperage required to start the car in cold weather and resistance of increased length of wire.

Not to mention I live in Florida. We don't know what cold weather is...anyhow just make sure you have a bigger cable (mine is 3/0) and some good connections. The bigger cable allows for resistance to flow better. Electricity always takes the path of least resistance. It's a lot like a water hose. The bigger the hose the more water you get, etc...But you do need a bigger battery also, I am just limited on cash flow and it works for now....

If you relocate a battery to the trunk then where do you ground the battery to? I mean isnt the ground only supposed to be so long and ****. Anyone got any picks of this being done. And which side of the trunk should the battery really go? I mean, should you put it on the side which balances the car out best or on the side of least resistance?

I put mine right in the middle, as far back as it would go. I used the stock ground wire and I have some 3/0 left over that I am going to switch to. Just need time to do it. When I get that time I will post some pics too...Sorry man, work is crazy, going through a big inspection right now.

You can ground it to the chassis. So you only need one long, big wire for positive, and a short, big wire for ground

what I ment was certainly for info on location of wire placement but for imagery related to the storage of the battery. Do they sell battery relocation kits. Or do I have to have a storage mount created from multiple welds certainly you dont want the battery just flip-floping all over the trunk.

I cut out a board for the trunk out of MDF to fit around the battery. I need to finish it though. (Carpet and such) Then I ran the power cable through a hole I drilled in the trunk and down along the lip on the underside of the car. Sorry, still haven't had a chance to get pics taken yet.
