To stay away from auto's?
I found a really nice looking red SI (Canadian SI) Coupe with about 125K miles (230,000km's) but it has the automatic gearbox.
The price appears to be fair, but I'm a bit hesitant on the auto....
Your thoughts?

Test drive it and see how if feels, automatics are in general not as reliable at upper mileages as a standard in any vehicle, but some of our cars have hit 300k kiliometers with an automatic.

Yeah, I've seen them last less than 100k miles, to well past a quarter million miles, with regular fluid changes.

Good ones are good, bad ones are bad. Usually very little warning is given when one does start heading South.
Bad: Slipping, shuddering, RPM flare between shifts, unusual whine noises (Hondas transmissions DO whine a little bit normally), leaks, fault codes related to the trans.
Look at the color, and smell the smell of the fluid. (Won't help if you have never smelled a roasted transmission though).
Ask for service history.
Make sure the trans dipstick fits tightly. Replace it if it fits loose.
I like to see trans fluid changes every 30k. Proper fluid.
Drain and fill ONLY.
NO flushing with any machines.
Worm type hose clamps on the cooler lines are a telltale sign that it got a Jizzylube trans flush with a machine, and very likely the wrong fluid. That alone isn't a deal breaker, but I see failures that happened after having this done.
Then again, I only deal with them when things go wrong.
Pay for a pre-purchase inspection by a knowledgeable trusted professional.
