Possible to clean fuel injector without removing it?

Is there any over the counter bottles of fuel injector cleaner that actually work? How do you tell if they work or not? I was told they need to be used several times in a row on a full tank of gas each time

Re: Possible to clean fuel injector without removing it?

short answer, no. if the injector is not clogged completely, fp-plus will clear them out over a month or more with continuous use (usually). if there is a bad clog or they are worn out, no additive will help short of replacement.

well if you have a misfire code, it might indicate a clogged injector. but there is no way to tell without removing them and dismantling.

So sounds like its best to not do anything and just leave it alone huh? Any way to prevent it from clogging? I dont know you maintain them

Re: Possible to clean fuel injector without removing it?

I would leave them alone. There is really no need to touch them unless you have a problem like a code. I use fuel injector cleaner every oil change. Don't know if it actually helps but it makes me feel better. Also I heard some gas stations use cheap gas which can be dirty. I try to use a name brand like Shell or Mobile. There really isn't much you can do with injectors without taking them out and apart to clean them.
