Cylinder Head Plug Leak

I have '01 Civic EX with an oil leak. I sprayed it down with engine degreaser and traced source to the cylinder head plug (other posts have called it the cam seal but the diagram of the engine shows part number 12513-P72-003).

I've found a few other posts with the same issue but am trying to assess if it's something I can do myself. I've taken the valve cover off, cleaned and re-sealed it, but talk of resetting the valve lash (don't even know what that is), removing rocker, and needing a torque wrench have me wondering if I'm out of my league.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Cylinder Head Plug Leak

Get a new plug from the dealer for 5 bucks. Pry the old one off with a screwdriver or twist in a self tapping screw and pop it off. Apply some Hondabond or black silicone on the plug. Pop it in. You don't have to pull the valve cover. Just clean the hole out before you put the new plug in.

Re: Cylinder Head Plug Leak

wouldn't you have to drain your oil first? i had this done at the dealer. along w/ the oil pan gasket and some other gasket that they said i needed. (part # 12030-PLC-010)
$461 later and the cylinder head plug started leaking again after about a week. now im going to just put that silicone or something else on it.

Re: Cylinder Head Plug Leak

Nope. Takes 10 minutes. No oil drain, nada. You can reuse the old one, just reseal it well.
