Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

I have a friend who has a 96 4dr automatic civic EX while I have an 01 2dr MT civic EX. It is believed that my starter is bad( since my car wont start and you can hear the clicking noise and all power is there) and my friend's civic has a seized up engine so I can take parts out of it. I was wondering if his starter might fit into my 01 civic?

The starter definitely isn't, totally different engine.

There are a couple parts interchangeable though..

Re: Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

I'd call this one, PLAUSIBLE.

From the deepest part of my grey matter, I seem to recall that flywheels (and clutches) are the same for all D series engines from (at least) 6th Gen on. If the flywheels are the same, it is possible that the starters are interchangable. I'd hit up a Napa or Autozone, ask for the part numbers for both. Heck, go to Southbay Honda and search it. I'll look it up too.

Re: Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

6th gen starter #31200-P2E-A51 http://www.hondapartscheap.com/south...t=0&quantity=0

7th gen starter #31200-PLM-A51 http://www.hondapartscheap.com/south...t=0&quantity=0

They look exactly the same so, they should work. That's for the Mitsuba only as they don't offer a Denso for the 6th gen.

Re: Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

^^ Naw, you did it for me.

Look at all the part numbers on the page and you will see they are all the same (even the part that bolts to the engine). I wish someone would bring over their 6th gen so I can switch the starters to see whether it really works or not.

Re: Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

On paper they're the same, but maybe when you get down to the nitty gritty something doesnt work out.

So until someone tries it out, its a definite Plausible, like max said

Re: Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

I think the difference is where the starter fits into the flywheel. The "cap" may be a different shape, but the core should be the same. IN THEORY.

Re: Are 7th gen and 6th gen parts interchangable?

Look at the caps, they look the same.

I hope the OP tries it. Otherwise I'm getting one the next time I'm at P-N-P and trying it.

EDIT: To the OP- the auto and manual "caps" (where the starter attaches to the engine) are different so, you should be able to take the manual cap off yours and put it on the new one.
