Thermostat

I have recently opted to remove my thermostat all together. Can this action cause any future and serios problems?
It was recently explained to me that thermoregulators or thermostats just regulate when the coolant fluids should begin moving through the engine. I know you can purchase racing thermoregulators and that they are used to open the valve and let fluid in at a lower temperture therfore releasing or dispersing heat sooner. as such I concluded that removing it would and should push fluid through the engine consistantly thus cooling the motor consistanly. But I have severe concerns as the engine bay of my car smells (stinks) like coolant.
What does every one think and please advise on any changes or modifications that should be made.

Re: Thermostat

The thermostat allows the engine to heat up to operating temperature quicker... and in the winter you may never get up to temp, if it's cold enough. I can imagine your fuel economy will suffer in those circumstances.

I'd replace it with a new OEM Honda thermostat.

magicpotatoes is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Thermostat

if your car is automatic, this won't work, the only time it can get up to operating temp is when you're stopped at a red light and will cool down again once you get moving and won't shift past 3rd gear. even if your car is manual, fuel economy will greatly suffer if you're driving around when the engine is cold. as for the coolant smell, my girlfriend has '04 EX and the gasket/seal is designed to work with the thermostat in place so not having a thermostat maybe causing your leak?
