Hey dog I came across your pic from while back with your filter installed on your radiator hose it looks like. Not sure if thats a trans cooler fan in front of it but what exactly does the filter do because you think if i call up my honda and ask for the filter (what kind filter exactly?) for civic HX 2005, you think they would have it?
is it only useful WITH an aftermarket trans cooler already installed?

Gee thanks for the wonderful help here.
Obviously i would call my dealer but i dont even know what the hell the filter is called! And if its not going to be useful than why bother? thats why i wanna know its purpose and if its needed with a trans cooler.
Is it really that much for someone to answer?

... ummm.. LOL.. WTF...
I can't answer your question for sure but I'll give you my thoughts on it. gearbox has an external transmission cooler installed and probably an external filter (the one your looking at) that filters the fluid that goes into the radiator. It's more than likely not a dealer item but I don't know. Call them up and ask if they have an external transmission cooler or filter and see what they say. Oh that fan in front is the regular cooling/AC fans that your car has. There should be 2 of them Just what your seeing is the filter installed in front of it

Also since were on the topic of under my hood, i want to clean under my hood and got some simple green today. I was told to cover up the alternator, distributor, battery, ECU and fuse box before doing it. I dont know where the alternator, distrubutor, fuse box and ECU are....can someone please point it out for me?
thanks

I'd refrain from getting water in your intake, as well, and take out your battery if you plan on doing that. Either that, or do as I do, give your engine bay a good thorough wipedown every time you wash your car. Sure, your hands can't get everywhere, but it'll appear clean where it counts.

No its a salvage but not a a rebuild. I actually got the intake from a parts dismantler here because the one that came with it was a crappy CAI and didnt like it so i ripped it out and sold it and went stock.

You don't have a distributor. Alternator is below your power steering pump (the thing toward the front of you engine bay with a belt attached to it), fuse box isn't pictured, but it's a plastic box on the left side, just out of the picture with, lo and behold, fuses in it.. Kinda hard to miss. Lastly, your ECU is behind your glove box inside your car, no need to worry about that.

Going by these pics, looks like the alt. is under the power steering pump? How the hell am i suppose to get under it to cover?
Im going to tinfoil the intake as well dont worry. Can I just cover the tip that is near the fender or do i need to cover the entire plastic intake that connects to the engine.
For the radiator do you think i can clean it from the inside without taking the bumper off? want to clean the fan and all if thats safe.

I use a microfiber towel.. Lets me kinda scrub it down without tearing. As for the alternator.. The thing with the belt in your picture, on the bottom right corner. That's your power steering pump. Now, if you look below that, there's another thing with a belt on it. That's your alternator. You can also follow the wires coming out the right side of the plastic wire cover, and that goes straight into your alternator.

All those metal pipes under the engine and at the bottom are probably not even worth cleaning, what you think? Just clean the top parts?
Im kinda scared now taking my hose to under my hood cause of the alt, what if i just sprayed on the simple green stuff, let sit for 10mins, brush all over, then wipe the stuff off with a wet microfibre towel?
