Rep Power: 0 D17A2 removal - lift it out or drop it out the bottom?
I have a 2003 Civic EX sedan, 5-speed with A/C. The book says lift the car, drop the sub-frame and lower the engine out the bottom. Can I lift it out with an engine crane as I have no vehicle lift available. Please don't tell me that you "should" be able to, or you "think" it can be done. Let me know if you have done this and what you had to do. This will not be my first engine pull, but the first one in a civic. Thanks in advance.

no no no never try to lift whole car with engine crane cause it can pull the whole crane over. if you want to drop the subframe, you just unbolt the subframe and any connection, but you have to use jacks and jackstands, this method is much more difficult then just cherry picking the motor out the top

I just did mine a couple of months ago. I pulled it right out of the top with the transmission still attached. I was very easy. All I did was lift the side with your pulleys first. Pulled it at an angle. Transmission the lower side. There is a thread on here about it but definitely easier from the top without using a lift.
