Post Protector Set, Thermal - AC

The shop gave me $600 dollar quote for fixing my ac. I just found out that its just the thermal protector set 38908-PLA-E01 that is wrong $50 for it.

What I want to know is if the relay (thermal protector) is one time like a fuse, meaning it blows when it gets hot and never closes back again or its like a relay which closes when it cools down.

Main reason is to find out why my thermal protector went bad. If it works like a fuse which is one shot then I need to find why my compressor got hot.

I am also thinking of bypassing the safety relay completely... its freaking 95 out here in det...

They should reset (I believe) but over time they fail. I'd say replace it, but bypassing it is certainly something you can try (at the risk of the compressor overheating and becoming damaged at some point... but who knows, right?).

i just took it out today, what a pain in the butt....had to take radiator out, take all four bolts holding compressor where u can position the compressor and slowly chip away at the old protector.

I have the new piece and need to put it in.

After seeing it apart, do you think there was any easier way to get it off, or possible way to get to it from the top, if you were to try it again?
