Found this about a foot under my car this morning...parked on the street.
Any idea what it might be from?

I'd take a look under the car and see if any of the CV boots are torn open
edit: I don't know the exact construction of our CV joints, but the last time I saw a big metal ball come from my car (1992 toyota paseo), the CV joint pooped itself.

Those are the black accordion looking things? (I don't know much about cars). I'm also not hearing a noise from the wheel...although my heat-shield rattles so loudly it might be drowning it out.

yep, the black rubber accordion looking bits that seal joints on your drive shafts..
a quick google search of a cv joint provides this picture
Should be similar to what's under the black boots. If you have a torn CV boot, then you should get that CV joint looked at

wow that would suck, yeah pretty serious when the ball bearings fall out. does your car still turn? did the ball have grease on it? if your boots are fine maybe its from another car.

From what i could see without the jack and using a flashlight, and also feeling around...there does not appear to be a rip in the boots. My car was turning fine...and no noticeable noise (i had a friend drive it around the work parking lot today just to make sure, after I talked to a mechanic on the phone). Would i hear a noise right away?

CV ball bearings are larger than that next to the pictured AA battery.
I don't believe that ball bearing fell out of your car.

The ball bearings from a strut mount are exactly that size, I wish I still had my old bearings to show you guys, but I'd bet thats it.

Thanks for suggestions guys! I'm gonna take it to the shop on Monday (its got some other stuff it needs done as well) and have them take a look at the steering/suspension, see if they can't find the spot that's missing the bearing. It also was not covered in grease, it was quite dry when i found it. Crossing my fingers that it didn't even come from my car! Merry Christmas!
