0w-20

Can 7th generation civics use 0w-20? (instead of 5w-20).
I noticed that all the new Hondas are using 0w-20, increase fuel efficiency they say...

no, in fact even 5w20 can be too thin if you drive in hot weather (80F+). alot of us use 5w30 which is what honda suggests for earlier models. not much has changed with engine technology to require such a thin oil. the hybrids get 0w20 recommendation, and its only to improve gas mileage by 1-2%. its not worth reducing engine life over.

I totally agree with Gearbox on this one. If I had known, when I got the car I would have used 5w30 from scratch, instead of "following the manual for the watery 5w20" I have the feeling, that's the reason why engines breake so early... sure... Honda says to use 5w20, the car will be probably reach 100k and you will be way out of warany. I swear, I am using 5w30 for the last 5 months and I can't detect any drop in MPG. There is not a big difference between 5w20 / 5w30, plus you are protecting the engine better. I live in California and we are having 110+ degrees of HEAT this week, imagine running 5w20 ! Sure, w40 will be too tick for Civic, but w30 is the way to go.

I use Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic 5w30 and it's great, I have no burning at all, plus I know it's good stuff. Sure, it's a pain in the rear to find and cost me like 7 per quart but, I like it Please, do no use 0w20
