Help with drop height..

Hey guys I'm getting new tires tomorrow and I am switching my 205/40/17 to 215/45/17 because the ride on the 205 was ****! I really want to drop my car soon and I'm not sure how low to go so i don't rub. On our gen the back of the civic really sits high i want to get to be straighter.

Any helpful tips would help.

Re: Help with drop height..

I have no rubbing issues with my 215-45/17's and I'm lowered on tein super streets (set at about 1" higher than the lowest adjustment).

I have about a 1 finger gap all around

Re: Help with drop height..

I cant afford to spend 600+ right now, Thats why I was thinking of just buying the springs and then the shocks. But im not sure how much to drop with my 17 the tien s tech are F/R 1.3/1.4 and eibach sportline are 1.5/1.5. I dont know if i can go lower than that im not sure.

Re: Help with drop height..

I plan to get the s tech And I want to get 215/45/17 in the front. I was just wondering if I can get one size bigger in the rear. I don't think it'll rub because its not like the back wheels will have to turn side to side. So is it possible to stagger tire size or do all 4 tires have to be the same size? And sorry for thread jacking lol

Re: Help with drop height..

I ran with tein s-techs on stock struts for a good while and noticed little to no issues. My dad put 18k miles on my car while I was out to boot camp with that setup, and I even made a Vegas to SC and an SC to upstate NY trip with that setup. When I swapped out for Tokico blues tho, it felt so much nicer.

Why would you want to stagger tire size on a FWD car? If anything, it'll hurt your handling by increasing your understeer. Unless, of course, you don't care about performance, then, by all means.. That setup is meant for a RWD car..

Or, if you just want to put 17's up front with a 215/45-17, and 18's in the back with a 215/40-18 tire, then I guess you'd be ok, with possibly a slightly harsher ride in the back due to smaller sidewall.. It'll be purely for aesthetics.

My verdict: save the money you'd spend the extra buck on by getting a bigger rim and put it toward a better suspension

Re: Help with drop height..

well I have 17s with 205/40/17 and it is harsh as hell. I am going to get new tires and I want to get as big of tire as I can without rubbing, so it wont be as bad of a ride. I wasn't implying for performance reasons, but if it'll make handling worse then I wont do it. I just was wondering if I could have a little more rubber in the back to improve ride quality or not.

Re: Help with drop height..

Like I mentioned above, I've had 215/45-17's on my car with no issues, and I'm dropped with a 1-finger cap all the way around..

I actually don't have 215/45's right now because of a freak winter that I had when I was in WA state. I currently have 205/50's, and those have torn up my front fenderwell linings.. My rears haven't rubbed yet though

Re: Help with drop height..

But the 205/50's didn't rub in the back? That is what I'm asking, can i run 215/24 front 205/50 rear? I realize i have front wheel drive i am not trying to get more traction i just want the best ride quality possible on these 17s know what i mean bro

Looks like I have less than a 1 finger gap in the back.. :shrug

.375" gap between the shoulder and the fender, and keep in mind, my suspension is set to be fairly stiff (16 clicks on teh tein super streets, 16 being softest, i'm set at 4 or 6 clicks)

Re: Help with drop height..

Awesome man! Thank you for the pics. I am totally going to try. The tire shop where I live will swap out the size if they end up rubbing. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Help with drop height..

So the tein s tech will sit nice on my 215/45/17 with no rubbing? and how is the ride on the stech. Because i was debating between eibach sportline and stech.

Re: Help with drop height..

the s-techs rode fairly stock like.. maybe a hair stiffer

I had no issues until I was forced to put on the 205/50's I have right now, but my ride height is lower than s-tech's as well.

Here's what she looked like with 215/45's with tein s-techs

If you look closely, you'll see the tokico blues behind the wheels, too
