cracked header

So my stock exhaust header is cracked, and the leak is freaking annoying.
well the dealership of course wants an arm and a leg, so i was thinking about just getting an aftermarket header and having the local gear head install it for me.
But the only ones i can find a good deal on don't have the built in catalytic converter, i'm not worried about passing emissions, because they don't evan check that here, lol.
but would the car be abnoxiously loud without the cat? right now i have the stock exhaust, but i may replace it within the next month or so..

-edit yea sorry, its an lx

Re: cracked header

no, but i'm guessing you have a dx/lx correct? If so, you'll have to change the rest of the exhaust to ex exhaust system. Personally, get an oem exhaust manifold.

Re: cracked header

you will have to get a dx/lx header because the ones 'without' a cat converter are the ones for the ex model. they are very different. you either have to pay to buy the right one for your dx/lx model, or get the ex one on discount, but then you would have to get a catback system for the ex one as well.

if you arent going to bother doing more mods, and if you are not interested in getting a catback, i also agree and say you should just get the oem manifold.

Ive seen the megan headers without a cat for the lx, i guess where the cat was on the headers they just put a resinator.
Im just wondering if it will sound obnoxious i guess..

Re: cracked header

you sure it wasn't a misleading typo on where you saw it, or it could have been for a race setup. Number One makes a header for the dx, i see a problem though. it eliminates the cat. which i may not be certain about but you might throw a check engine light (due that if you look at where the o2 sensor bungs are located they will get a different reading then a factory manifold will have with the cat being between them). Someone correct me if i am wrong please.

yes that is a jacked up looking link, lol, copied and pasted

But seriously just get the oem manifold, header alone isn't worth it.

Re: cracked header

I must agree, OEM unless you are going to do major mods.
