I just bought all the parts and optional parts i need to replace the timing belt, now i need to know if i actually need that tool?

I have not done a timing belt so I can only offer an opinion. I don't think you have to have the tool. I believe I have read of others using a chain wrench with padding to hold the crankshaft pulley. A lot of guys use a breaker bar with an extension but the IR with 1000 ft/lbs should remove the nut easily. The problem is that unless something is holding the crankshaft, it will take less torque to spin the crank than to remove the nut. My guess is that you will just spin the crankshaft.
I don't think the tool is very expensive, maybe $30. If there is an Autozone nearby you might check with them and see what tools they have available to loan out.

I think I understand what you are saying. Impact tools deliver torque differently than a long breaker bar. The sudden impact is less likely to turn the object attached to the nut. I'm guessing, but I doubt it takes more than 30 ft-lbs to turn the crankshaft and I would think that amount would still transfer to the crankshaft. If it's a manual transmission you may be able to put it in 1st and have someone step on the brake. With an impact tool it may be that a chain wrench will hold the crankshaft pulley easily.
I hate buying tools that I will only use one time but then I also hate starting a project and finding I waste a whole day because I can't get something apart or don't have a tool I need.
I think the only way to know if the IR impact can break the nut loose without turning the crank is going to be to try it.

If I were you, I would try it the night before you do it, if it comes off your good to go and the hardest part is over. If not, then you need to go but the tool and prepare for battle.
No one can really tell you if it will come off or not, it is honestly a hit or miss.

I gave in, and i bought the tool. $30 dollars including shipping from amazon. Its a 50mm hex correct? I ask because the package only says for civic 92+ 1.6 liter.

ok i think i'm set for everything i need to do the timing belt and water pump.
Maybe i should order pistons and valves right now lol jk.
parts:
Timing Belt
Tensioner (doesn't have the spring with it that i seen in pictures )
updated tensioner bolt
Water Pump and water pump rubber o ring type seal
Honda type 2 coolant
Harmonic Balancer
Camshaft oil seal
Crankshaft oil seal
both drive belts
oil
and the damn crank tool
I think i have everything, did i overlook anything?
Should i take pictures of anything for anyone?
please list what you would like to see..
Because i could probably get this job done in under 2 hours, hopefully.

I really dont think you needed to replace the hermonic balancer, especially if this is your first timing belt change on the vehicle, it should still be in fairly good shape.
Good move using Honda coolant.
I wish I could remember if mine came with the spring, I really dont remember. Call the place you ordered from and ask them.
