Wheel + Tire fitment

Hey all, i'm about to purchase a set of aftermarket alloy wheels and have some questions about the fitment. I'm planning to keep the stock tires (195/R15) to use with the new wheels. Will a wheel with these dimensions fit? Meant for 15" tires, 6.5J, +38mm offset. I'm mostly concerned with the offset and the width. Also how do i know what size hubcentric rings and lugs/wheel locks i need? Thanks

Re: Wheel + Tire fitment

you'll want 12x1.5 lugs, these are skinnier than stock and will fit in the holes of any aftermarket rim. The offset of the rim doesn't concern tire size in this case. And 6.5 inches wide isn't enough of a difference to warrant a different tire size either. Swap tires and you should be good!

Re: Wheel + Tire fitment

Can RedNwhite answer a tougher one? I have a 96 (6th gen?) and want to go from a 185/65R14 to a 16" wheel. What works as the same rolling diameter... a 205/55R16 or 205/50R16? Or am I way off here? and I know I need a different offset for clearance with the wider tire, but dont know what stock is or what I should move to... any help?

neither of those two will be an exact replacement but you are as close as it gets. the diameter of your stock 185/65/r14 is 59.61 cm. the 205/55/r16 is 63.19 cm and the 205/50/r16 is 61.14 cm. you need to go with the 205/50/r16s because the difference is only about 1.5 cm which is only about 1/2 an inch bigger which is perfectly fine. slightly bigger is better than slightly smaller because you have less wheel well gap. just remember if your new wheel diameter is:

slightly bigger than stock = car elevation is slightly higher, but wheel well gap is smaller by that exact same amount.

slightly smaller than stock = car elevation is slightly lower, but your wheel well gap is bigger by that exact same amount.

the only way you would get an exact fit if youre set on 16s is if you went 195/50/r16 which has a diameter of 60.14 cm BUT that would mean you would only have a 195 width tire which i would recommend against. if you go aftermarket rims, 14s should use 195 width, 15-16s should use 205 width, 17-18 should use 215 width.

as for an offset, for 16s a +38 or +40 will work perfect.
