Hey everyone I have a rough idle. Just installed new plugs, O2 sensors, and filter. Where do I go from here besides IAC? If I clean my IAC do I HAVE to change the gasket with it? Or is it only reccomended? Thanks all.

7th gen civic's are genrally known to have a rough idle so not much you do will fix that.....

Yeah, anyone correct me if im wrong but yeah its a known problem. Anything done i.e sparks and crap like that will do naff all to idle

change your oil in my 03 you can hear the everything valves etc. when i need an oil change..even if the oils topped off. run synthetic and change it...mine has had a rough idle since it was brand new when it neared an oil change. it now has 161,000 miles on it and still runs good i just did an oil change and its a lot smoother...its how its always been

try the iac valve and clean the throttle body. you can reuse the old gaskets. i bet that will fix it for you. dont forget to reset ecu and do the idle learn.

Yes, its freezing in NY now so I am hopefully going to do it tomorrow.. Good to hear I can reuse the gaskets..I dont put anything on the gaskets do I? How can a rough idle be a normal thing for a car? When I bought my car used it was fine. My friend threw it on his scanner and he didnt see anything weird. Going to clean IAC and throttle tomorrow. I have changed oil and trannsmission fluid and it hasnt effected the idle. This has been an on going thing

Is this the proper idle relearn procedure?


Make sure all electrical items are turned off.
Start the engine.
Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral) until
the radiator fan comes on.
Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the
throttle fully closed and with all electrical items
off.

Also since I have an aftermarket radio that technically doesnt turn off would that affect this procedure?

I cleaned the IAC same thing, I am starting to think this thing is missfiring. Also I am reading in the chiltons manual here and it says if I have low compression in a cylinder that it will cause a slightly rough idle, due to a worn cam lobe. How can I know if the lobe is worn other then a compression test?

How many miles on your car?

Mine has 83k on it and tbh my cams and valves are fine.
i'm going to replace them before i boost but unless youv'e mistreated your car its not gonna be that.

Yea I was talking to a friend and he said if its the cam lobes I would have major power loss..which I dont. I dont think I am missfiring either. I believe my timing belt has worn a bit which has threw my timing off a bit and thus causing a rough idle. (I just hit 80k miles) I am open to any reccomendations.

what kind of plugs do you have? if you use some cheep-o crap (autolites, ac delco) you will have a stumble. you need to use ngk, denso, nology, or other japanese plugs. well, my nologys were made in the czech republic so i guess that doen't completly make sence...
what is your millage? if it's above 60k you probibly need a valve adjustment. that'll make a stumble for sure!

I used NGKS and the rough idle started before the tuneup. I discovered my front rubber on the engine mount is broken in half, and the rear one is a bit loose. I have 80k miles

to change the motor mounts I can just jack it up and remove the mounts as I support it from the oil pan correct? What should I use to support it a piece of wood so I dont damage the pan?

the engine is supported on the sides. the front and rear are for stability. you can take one out at a time and swap in the new ones. you might need something to move the engine around a little, like another jack. USE JACKSTANDS.

bringing back an old thread...

my 05 civic 1.7 has this rough idle and it is a slight misfire cylinder 1 and 3 are weak from doing a power balance test. tried to move the coils around and it stays at 1 and 4. motor is too hot to move plugs, but i put a screwdriver on the injectors and 2 and 3 are clicking really fast and 1 and 4 is not so fast. is the injector pulse normal?
