Re: Honda Civic reliability - better info

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Re: Honda Civic reliability - better info

Thanks for the info! I've had mine for 6 years and only took her in for some oil changes so I would say my 2004 civic is pretty reliable. Will prob have to take her in for some more standard maintenance work when she hits 90,000 but thats normal.

Re: Honda Civic reliability - better info

We have updated results for the Civic to include owner experiences through September 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year, better than average unless otherwise noted:

2010: no repairs reported yet, 30 participants

2009: 33

2008: 22

2007: 31

2006: 47

2005: 17

2004: 46

2003: 47

2002.5-
2003 Si: 73*, about average, small sample size

2002: 55

2001: 60 -- average odometer now over 100k

2000: 48

1999: 75

1998: 59

1997: 89*, small sample size

The 2003 Si is about average, all others are better than average.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

These stats, for the years we have them:

2009: 72, 3

2008: 86, < 1

2007: 75, 2

2006: 72, < 1

Honda Civic Lemon-odds and Nada-odds

Thank you, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May.

With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years from 1995 on.

2010: 8

2009: 23

2001: 59

2000: 56

1999: 104

1998: 23

1997: 133, about average, small sample size

Better than average except where noted. In most "average" years the sample size was small. The result for the 2003 might be bumped by the Hybrid--with more participants we'd split it off.

Re: Honda Civic reliability - better info

I have a 2004 Civic with a CVT.
Trannie had to be replaced at 160k.
With all the gas savings, it just went down to tube
After I paid $2500 for a replacement trans.
No more CVT trans for my family

I'm surprised it only cost $2,500 to replace.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

2003 Civic: 51, low
2002 Civic: 66, low
2001 Civic: 67, low

2004 Civic: 65, 4
2003 Civic: 60, 4

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2005 Civic: 72, < 1
2004 Civic: 55, < 1
2003 Civic: 57, < 1
2002 Civic: 64, < 1

Additional participants always helpful.
