fuel efficiency

does anybody know any type of engine modification that would raise the milage for daily driving? Just curious, what are the effects of raising compression ratio on na? I know it gives u more power at higher rpms and all....but can it do anything for normal driving <4000 rpm? can installing a turbo help? I realize more fuel is added when on boost, but i figure, there would be less effort to get to a specific speed, so maybe on avg the mpgs are more?

A lot of threads on here are about increasing power... in my view, there's too much traffic on the road to take advantage of a fast car anyways, so might as well focus on not giving away so much cash to oil companies.......

Re: fuel efficiency

I have been asking the same questions lately. I know I have gotten a good bit of improvement from a new set of tires designed for fuel efficiency.

Re: fuel efficiency

Turbochargers allow cars to run more efficient, but staying out of the boost can be really hard! And they aren't cheap...

Synthetic oil supposedly helps some...proper tires designed for fuel economy will help as well. Inflating your tires a little more than recommend will allow for less rolling resistance, but watch out for over-inflation. I believe there is a way to set a fuel cutoff (with proper program) to keep you from accidentally getting too much throttle.

Easiest way is to just keep your car in good running order, and drive smart! Check around b/c there's a few forums out there of people striving for the best mpg they can get.

Re: fuel efficiency

yea i maintian my car as much as possible... i'm thinking of getting new lightweight rims

I was curious if anyone knew of anyone new of any actual engine modifications that would significantly increase milage....as in if anybody can tell me if higher compression ratio will help this? If u gotta stay out of boost on a turbo'd car to get good milage, then there's probably no point to installing a turbo on a D17 for better milage...

Re: fuel efficiency

i don't know anything that would actually increase ur mileage that u can buy besides regular tunning.

although ppl do say they get increased mileage when they add intakes, headers and exhaust i/h/e. you also got the reverse effects to this when u step on the gas tho.
