another dumb question about a drop

Im dropping my car next weekend. I found a place that does alignments after an exhausting search. They asked if I had everything to adjust the camber and toe. Since I have a camber kit, I said yes. question is, do I need one in the front? I didnt think I did.
Another dumb question. when I change my springs, how bad will the alignment be off? will I be able to safely drive to the shop about 20 miles away? thanks

Re: another dumb question about a drop

haha, I made a thread exactly like this before I dropped!

Camber kits for the front are only 16mm bolts, you can pick them up from Home Depot and put them in yourself. But your other option is to simply not put them in at all, dropping a 7th generation Honda Civic only changes the camber in the front by 1 degree so it's not needed. I dropped my car and drove Calgary - Montreal - Atlanta - New York...........that's a lot of mileage and my tires are still even. So it's really up to you.

20 miles is fine to drive without an alignment, I drove a few errands every day for a week until I got mine done and it's fine. I just wouldn't take it on the highway much as it'll rattle parts around in your front end and cause damage more easily. Just to make sure you do get an alignment within that first week of driving at some point.

Good luck.

Re: another dumb question about a drop

sorry to bring up a semi old post, but you said to get a 16 mm bolt for the front camber. I assume thats 16 mm wide? how long should it be and should I get a nut and washer for it or what? thanks for the help

Re: another dumb question about a drop

yes wide, and yes.

A better option is just buy a front camber kit because its cheap as hell ~20 bucks. They are all coated so they dont rust unlike some home improvement parts sold.

If your getting colovers or have a front camber plate- you wont need a front camber kit.

and correct

I didn't mean to defer you from buying the camber kit, they are pretty cheap. But I physically checked my tires yesterday after 15,000 kilometers without it and they're fine.

Re: another dumb question about a drop

thanks for the info. Im not sure I am going to get a front camber for sure or not. Im only dropping 1.7. If I searched correctly, specs will be ok in the front. I was just wondering what my options were. I could get two bolts for probably two bucks, or I could go with the front camber kit for 20.
But I do have another question. How do you adjust the camber in the front with just a bolt. Im guessing where the bolt goes is slotted? I searched but didnt come up with a clear answer. anyhow, thanks again

Re: another dumb question about a drop

You need an alignment for any suspension change, even if you're simply adjusting coilovers.

Re: another dumb question about a drop

You can do an alignment yourself as well.
