Did your MPGs go down as it got colder or are they still down even as it's warming up?

Do you idle too long? Have you replaced the fuel filter yet? How's your air filter?

Most importantly...like already asked...how high are you revving before letting it shift?

I've found that with my car, 78mph is where my mpgs start dropping like crazy...

Re: gas mileage sucks?

If I stay out of VTEC shifting before 4000 rpms I can easily get 400 miles on a tank; however, that is not always reasonable and normal driving I will get 330-350miles on a tank with normal highway driving and varying rpms.

Re: gas mileage sucks?

Like Ronaldo said, keep out of VTEC! I know it's slow accelerating but I keep revs around 3000 rpm...

You can't "check" the fuel filter..only replace it.

Another thing to check is your tire pressure....

Re: gas mileage sucks?

take out the back seat, then there is a pate with 4 screws, remove that then you need a special tool to twist the top plastic thing and it'll come up, and it'll be in there

Re: gas mileage sucks?

cracked manifold?

how did you check and how much are you paying to get it replaced?
im getting pretty bad gas mileage myself i get around 22 CITY only though
but i don't see any gas leak stains on my driveway, could i still have a possible leak?

Re: gas mileage sucks?

i couldnt see the crack when i looked so i had my buddy look at it cuz i couldnt figure out what was wrong...so he thought i might have an exhaust leak...

so he put a mirror in right behind the front cover of the manifold and sure enough there was a big *** crack...

i dont notice gas or anything in my driveway but every now and then i can smell a lil gas when i first start it in the morning and i also noticed a "ticking" noise when i accelerated when the car wasnt warmed up yet...wasnt a loud ticking just slight...

so i ordered parts from majestic honda (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com) in rhode island... madddd cheap compared to most

only cost $560 in parts...it was around $480 for the converter... my honda dealer wanted $790 for just the convertor and i found an aftermarket on the internet for $550 but the one from majestic is OEM so im goin wit that one

honda wanted almost 2 grand to do the whole thing... cuz its mostly labor... but me and my buddy are just gonna do it ourselves

Re: gas mileage sucks?

yeah mdcivic, i just got my 03 civic coupe (i think it's an ex not totally sure) literally yesterday, had maybe one bar under half full and i drove about... i wanna say 50-60 miles, not exactly sure and now its about 1/4 full . I don't know how many gallons it holds but that seems pretty damn terrible. i never went above 4.25 rpms i do have a couple hills that i have to go up and accelerating is a pain, and it was all suburban area driving, like not city but still lights and all that stuff.

I was just curious.. i mean ****, thats terrible. I also heard the ex has like a vtec in it or something?

btw this is an auto..

thanks guys, im a noob

Re: gas mileage sucks?

Im only getting 24-25 right now but I have a 97 auto with no vtec. Done everything really except fuel filter and running injection cleaner. Almost sitting on the empty line with 240 miles.

Re: gas mileage sucks?

actually i found out mine was the lx, because it doesn't have the keyless remote entry (which sucks by the way!!!!) My dad may have it installed, but he doesn't wanna spend that much..

umm i talked to my dad about it and he said maybe the gas reader(forget whats it call... some odmeter) and it may be off and it just stays at F for a while then drops down..

ill find out next time i fill up and let you know how many mpg i got, right now it seems to be doing fine.

and bro, any ideas on how to make my ride look sick

pm me about that.

thanks

your lx still has power locks right? if so you can get a cheap alarm and then use its remote to lock/unlock the doors and arm the alarm.
