Cheating the system.
Cheating the system.
Ok,
Does anybody on here have a throttle body spacer? Did it help? Where can I find one either way?
I understand the theory, but I have my doubts. The "swirled" air still has to pass thru the manifold. I was also looking around for a TBS for my 302 V8. I was advised to look into manifold spacers. Evidently they make a spacer the goes between the 2 part intake manifold for that motor. Is it possible to do something like that with this overpowered D-machine in my car? Maybe even a spacer between the manifold and the head? The theory behind this is that air can be swirled just before it hits the valves, while also creating more of a vacuum.
I am trying to cheat the system by getting more power the cheapest way I can. Ultimately, I'd like to have it set up to good reliable fun driving. For work and travel.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Cheating the system.
they do not work, alot of people here have tried it and reported no power increase. if you have an aftermarket intake, the pipe may even hit the hood after installing the spacer. all it does is make a whistling sound. and our intake ports in the head already have a rough surface to swirl the air AFTER it passes thru the intake manifold. so honda engineers already beat you to it.
Re: Cheating the system.
Understood, but shouldn't swirling it more add some type of gain? Just interested in theory and test. If done right, couldn't it even cool the air charge? I wish I knew how to weld or had access to some hard plastic to try this out.

Re: Cheating the system.
If you wanted to do this, go dyno your car. Then buy a spare injector plate and take it to get CNC machined with the same design idea as the TBS has. Then dyno your car again. Subtract the first number from the second and thats your gain in HP... or torque, or hopefully even both. If the number is negative you failed.
Re: Cheating the system.
I wouldn't weld onto the injector plate. It would be more of a bolt on spacer. I see that the intake manifold is on piece. If it was 2, I was thinking that a heavy duty plastic spacer may work and be light weight. Its looking doubtful to even try this. There are no places close by to Dyno. No machine shops to fabricate. The joys of living in BFE! It was just a thought of sorts. Maybe I might tinker with a few things and see what I can do. Then I will be able to judge seat power.

Re: Cheating the system.
1. intake manifold is already plastic, to reduce heatsoak.
2. intake head ports are already roughed up to promote swirling air just before combustion. there is nothing to improve on.

Ok. Thanks. That's what I figured. Just trying to think outside the box. Little things like that have potential to help. In fact, I've got a new one.
Bear with me here,
Using a smog pump as a super charger?
Smog pumps (for those that don't know) are used to pump air out of the exhaust and into intake to reburn exhaust fumes and provide a cleaner burn. Supposedly. Mostly they are on bigger v8 engines. (To my knowledge) I've heard stories of people fabricating kits that use these as super chargers. I've heard that Go carts and motorcycles can be boosted using them? To be honest, I think its bull. But our engines are smaller than some motorcycles. And evidently you can change the size of the pulley to pump more air.
I know, I know. Thinking too hard on it, but maybe, just maybe......

Re: Cheating the system.
I knew that I'd catch hell for that. Haha. I deserved it too. Does anyone know how many cfm's our cars get factory? I figure if I can figure a way to add air so that There is not a boost or a vacuum, then It would help power and gas milage a little. Sorry bout all the far fetched ideas, its my job to question why things are the way they are and try to improve upon what it already there.
