04 civic rear door locks seized

i have a friend who has a 04 civic, this person is not "mechanically inclined", i like to work on cars so i thought i would do some research to try and help my friend out.

i tried searching and came up with many results for the door actuators going bad, however i none of the posts (that i could find) had a issue with manually locking the doors (via lock lever)...

the car has remote locks, however both rear doors will not lock(remotely or manually).
if you try to push down/pull up the manual lock lever for the doors they will not move at all... they are stuck in a unlock position.
would a dead/frozen actuator cause the manual lock lever to be stuck in place?

is there a way to disconnect the actuator to at least lock the doors manually?

thank you for any help.

Re: 04 civic rear door locks seized

I'm dealing with the same problem right now, I'll let you know once I get it figured. I think I'm going to go ahead and replace the door lock actuator, maybe its seized and thats the reason the doors won't unlock.

Mine is the drivers door however, and the key will only open it the odd time.

Kind of weird that this problem isn't very common even with all the actuator failures. It seems like everyone just has their power locks go on them, but manually they work fine...

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

On the rear doors:
Take the door panels off.
You may have to take the latches out.
I bet you will find corrosion has bound up a pivot on the lock rod linkages.
