Strange whining sound when driving. New Civic owner. Within the past 3 weeks I have purchased a 2013 Honda civic coupe. This is my very first post and really know nothing about cars mechanically speaking. Whenever in reverse or at lower speeds when accelerating(I believe around 1st and 2nd gear) I hear a whining sound. It sounds very similar to an RC car/golf cart. I've heard that Honda's (making their own transmission instead of sourcing one in from another manufacturer) tend to have weaker transmissions and am worried that this could be the source of my problem. I've only noticed the sound at low speeds when accelerating. I've tried accelerating at higher speeds to see if I could hear anything but haven't noticed any similar sounds. I haven't noticed any clunking or grinding sounds that would be associated with a transmission failure so I'm praying this isn't the case. If anyone had any ideas about what the problem could be or maybe if it's a common sound to hear I'd much appreciate it. Sorry if anything I said sounded stupid.....I really don't know much about cars. All I know is that I can't afford to fix a transmission.

check the fluid level and if it hasn't been changed recently, change it

Can you post a sound clip?
fuel pumps, and power steering pumps are commonly associated with such noises, but an audio clip will help us a lot.

Non of my friends or family have a civic so that would be difficult but maybe I'll just check youtube for audio clips.

When the power steering fluid is low or filled with the wrong fluid, it can make a winding sound when gassing. Check to see if that is low. Use only Honda Genuine power steering fluid because other brands aren't designed for Honda power steering systems.
